Funky new colors for Ford

09apr04

Ford hopes a new range of vibrant colours with chic names will appeal to customers, writes Paul Gover.

Green is still the colour of Envi at Broadmeadows. Ford has chosen the new colour and trendy spelling as its hero shade for 2004, reflecting a brighter take on car colours for coming years.

"Customers are wanting a wide spectrum of colour choices and brighter colours are becoming ever more popular," Ford Australia colour and trim manager Sharon Gauci says. "A really bright green such as Envi is popular with customers.

"It is part of a larger, brighter colour palette that customers are looking for."

Ford's decision to move green to the top of the charts reflects research results similar to Holden, which uses its Hothouse green to set the tone for the latest Commodores.

They prove that green is the trendiest choice on the road in Australia today, following earlier emphasis on darker colours, including blue.

Ford really jumped into the colour chart with the arrival of the BA Falcon, using everything from the startling Acid Rush to the signature BluePrint on its XRs to help the car stand out.

It is also working on its colour chart as it counts down to the arrival of the Territory.

Ford says its paint shop has been upgraded and it can now "shoot" 16 colours for the Falcon and Territory family, including a powder blue.

But Ford won't stop at Envi and Gauci says it has plans for "some very dynamic, exciting new colours" late this year.

Ford has also decided to match the colour changes to upgraded names, with Lightning Strike (Silver), Vixen (red), Mandarin (which replaces Blood Orange in May), Zest, Luscious and Indiana all now appearing on its brochures.

l dont understand why they crap on about Envi as a "colour and trendy spelling as its hero shade for 2004, reflecting a brighter take on car colours for coming years.

Werent Blood Orange, Citric and Blueprint bright? Envi is actually faded as is the new and horrible offshore. Talk about poor and stupid marketing

I saw an Envi XR6T yesterday in the metal....hmmmmmmmm :spit: It looks a bit lighter, sort of 'milkier' than Hothouse Green.

The car was down at the local club, I was hoping there would be a Hothouse Green Late model camira close by to compare directly with (usually is, they're bloody everywhere! :gooff: ) but no such luck.

And I didn't have any forum cards with me either to leave under the wiper. :doh2:

Havent seen one in the wild yet, but from the pictures I say it loox the goods :fishin:

Have to say that whenever I see an XR I look, so colour is not that important to me.

Looked at vibe and indiana on the website, but couldnt really form an opinion.

What is this shockwave colour all about? Only heard about it here.

I think Ford should do a Subaru with their WR blue and carry forward a classic signature colour (like blueprint) indefinitely. :fishin:

I'd be really keen to see 'solid' colours' such as a special edition of Brambles Red, Vermillion Fire, Yellow Blaze, Surfer Orange, Calypso Green and True Blue.

It would be a refreshing change from all of the metallic colours that have been sold so far.

Imagine a Limited Edition 'Brambles Red' GT Falcon with a real GT stripe package - very similar in concept to the WRC Blue WRX's that are sought after. This would be a real 'homage' car to Allan Moffat and the success of the GT Falcon at Bathurst.
