I am amazed that anyone can hear diff whine at 90 to 100 kph. :(

That's the time I'm usually changing into third gear and if I happen to be driving sedately, who can tell with the stereo blazing?

Maybe I'll hear it over the Easter long weekend while I'm cruising on the limit to beat plod.

I have it between 80-100, and its gradually getting worse. Have finally decided to bite the bullet and get them to put a replacement one in, as I have 45000km now.

Trumpy, have you always had a whine or did you first notice it after a certain number of k's?

It would be interesting to know from you guys that have diff whines if they have always been there from new or is it something that develops over time.

It seems from a few posts I have read that if you do have the whine, it gets worse as the k's increase, is this everyones experience?

BTW, I have no diff whine but may car has only done 2,500 k's.

Ford really need to get their act together with the whole diff situation. Despite what certain Ford employees may say, they've been replacing bucketloads of diffs since the AU1. A dealer near me told me they don't go a single day without doing a few AU / BA diffs under warranty. I think its Salisbury we can all blame for that. They are ok for standard use but in the 1tonne AU and BA utes carrying high load they just can't cut it and especially in the Ts they should be beefcake but they're still using diffs of a family car standard. Bring on the 9inch as standard in the Ts I say :banghead:

I don't notice a whine at all. Cruising at higher speeds the only thing I hear are the tyres on the road and even they don't sound as loud now (maybe because of wear). I could have the whine, but buggered if I could notice it. I have the clunk though, but after taking it back to the dealer after a few hundred k's, they tightened everything up, and the clunk was still there, but not as loud and bearable.

I think it would be worthwhile to know what % of diffs have this "period noise" ie whine at about 90 to 100kph.

My car has had the diff replaced at 3800 klms. Repacement is the same as the original. Whine comes in at 95 /98 klms. per hr. and is gone at 100 klms. per hr. It is only noticeable on light trottle and unless you try to hit the right speed you would not here the whine.

My dealer has logged the fault and has stated they will wait for the diff supplier to come up with a result that overcomes the problem before fitting another diff. I have agreed to this as the whine is not that bad I can't live with for a while :(

I have only really noticed it coming on in the last 10000km. It is now quite noticeable after 80kmh, and I would hate to be sitting in the back seat.

In my case it is definitely something that has appeared as the Ks clocked up, and wasnt there when new.
