I am a subby on the road and do a lot of k`s so yes $5 could buy me a cheeseburger meal deal.but seriously I`m not complaining about the few cents when optimax first came out it was only 3cents dearer and if you filled up four times they gave you a ferrari model car worth $40 now you pay three times that and get no loyalty because they have uyou hooked.regardsstang

The fuel quality must be relevant to the state you reside in and what refinery the fuel comes from. In victoria there is no doubt in my mind that the shell optimax is the best fuel (next best is Mobil 98 ron synergy) in the T, STI, EVO, PORSCHE GT3, PORSCHE 996 TWIN TURBO, and BMW M5.I cant tell you how bad the B* premium fuel is in Victoria, Its amazing nearly every time we are struggling with a lower than expected power from an engine you find out from the owner that the engine is on B* premium. :( I guess that its also possible that the fuel is tampered with by some operators if you know what I mean.If you're in Victotia I recommend you use either the Shell Optimax or Mobil 98 ron Synergy in your T. The Renault has weird stuff happen with the tank full of Optimax, stuff like poor idle, worse than normal starting problems, and a woefully inaccurate flow and guage readings. It seems like there's a difference in the specific gravity of Optimax to the other two. I've had Bruce running on BP Ultimate, Optimax and Vortex Gold and to be honest I've gotten the best results from BP Ultimate, but I haven't done enough consistent runs with it to be 100% sure... A. sharkey Member 337 Member For: 21y 2m 6d Posted 02/04/04 01:36 AM Share Posted 02/04/04 01:36 AM Before the T I had an AUII XR8 which was very fuel fussy. It required good 98 ron fuel or it would ping. I found that my local Mobil provided the most consistent fuel, the Optimax (about 15km away) was a bit hit and miss regarding quality and the Mobil near my wife’s work was so bad that she had to stop filling up there. At the APS day at C & V, Dave explained that fuel has a shelf life and starts to go off after a while. This would explain the inconsistency that I have experienced. My local Mobil is very busy. The other 2 places I mentioned probably did not have the same turnover in PULP.This may also explain why some people swear by a certain fuel whilst others have had bad experiences with it.So I would say that where you buy your fuel is just as important as what fuel you buy. justind Member 90 Member For: 21y 10m 23d Location: Melbourne Posted 02/04/04 01:58 AM Share Posted 02/04/04 01:58 AM I am from Victoria and I agree with Peter from APS BP ultimate is the worst. But again in my experience the Optimax although good does not perform well if used always. Synergy 8000 seems the most consistant.
Zeke zeke Member 792 Member For: 21y 8m 20d Location: Adelaide Posted 02/04/04 02:02 AM Share Posted 02/04/04 02:02 AM Fuel does "go off" - even standard unleaded. I have a 5HP Honda fire pump (live in the Adelaide Hills). This usually starts first time, every time. But, if I don't siphon the fuel out and replace the 12 month old stuff at the start of summer, it refuses to start at all! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 27d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 02/04/04 04:37 AM Share Posted 02/04/04 04:37 AM I remember working in a dodgy servo. We were expecting a delivery of ULP and diesel and the boss had ordered too much ULP, so he got me to pump the ULP into the PULP tank using the bowser. I protested, but his call was 3,000 lt ULP into a 30,000lt tank PULP will not make much difference. I sometimes wonder if we are always getting the fuel we pay for

I guess each company must blend their own additives to the base fuel as the performance difference that we have seen and measured between the 2 brands of fuel is significant. I would walk before I put B* ultimate in my GT3 or twin turbo Porsche. PeterAPS
