Rough Idle and Stalling

Hi Guys

I have a questions re the valve springs. Is it possible that they are causing the rough idle and stalling problems?

I had Ford update the software a few weeks ago. The idle is now more stable but the stalling problem is still there. The car will run fine then for no reason the idle will start to become unstable and drop very low then stall. On the restart the idle will eventually smooth out again ( 10mins or so ).

Do you know of the cars that have had the valve spring done if they are stalling?

Is it possible the valve springs are causing this problem?

AM, We have installed valve springs to over 50 xr6t engines and I dont recall ever hearing from a customer that the engine has had a stalling problem after the valve spring install.

My own T has only ever stalled once on a very cold morning in near freezing conditions in a alpine area, bonnet had nearly 250 mm of snow piled up on the bonnet.

In short I dont believe that the valve spring upgrade is in any way connected to the engine stalling problem. :innocent:

AM, I'm reading your question exactly the opposite to Peter.

Are you saying that the stalling issue may be related to the STANDARD valve springs and therefore asking if anyone who has had the valve spring upgrade has experienced stalling problems since, thus suggesting that the valve spring upgrade may actually help solve the problem? :smilielol:

I certainly remember the rough idle of the T with the valve spring issue at the Melbourne APS day.

Mick the rough idle occurs after the hydraulic lash adjuster pumps up, ( this problem is normally experienced after high engine rpm at full load operation) if you let the engine idle for approx 30 to 45 seconds the engine/hyd aduster recovers then the engine resumes to operate on 6 cylinders and idles smoothly. I read AM's question to be more about the every day stalling/rough idle issue, sorry if I misunderstood AM's question and confused the issue as I did read the question differently to you. :unsure: I very much doubt that the stock Ford valve springs are in any way related to the stalling issue.

I was day dreaming & thought I was in Auto mode on Monday when I was in SSS, as a result I was very late on a flat 1 - 2 gear change & she ran like a hairy goat (no reference to Kent) for a minute or so. She has since forgiven me & is running perfect again. Brisbane has dropped back into the 20's & we're loving it.
