What we should all do is put up $10 each and send one of the T's with the clunk to a diff place that has a clue and get them to fix it.

You need a donor vehicle? I will kindly volunteer...

I have started a poll on this a few days ago... It would be appreciated if all people who dont have the clunk or shunt vote, as this will show that this problem is not normal.... Hope all members vote and not just the ones who have it.... It would give a better indication of the extent of the problem... you can find the poll in ford discussion under driveline shunt... and yes it is the bloody clunk your talking about :pics:

For some reason your poll is closed, you cant post to it (or at least l couldnt) that's why its disappeared without trace on the active topics list.

Maybe worth starting another or having this thread merged with a poll as the results would be very intetesting. Can one of the mods do this?

Who wants my $10??

l would like to see the work done in Brisbane by Ben (WBT56) who is a very knowledgable and regular contributor to this site. What do others reckon?

yeah I know... I :pics: ed it up.... but at least we can vote and get an indication... is no good voting if we dont get a good crosssection of voters though... normally only those who suffer from the problem vote... hopefully we can encourage all to do so in this case....

I went to add a reply in myself and realised I stuffed it... accidentally clicked in that bloody poll only no replies box thingy :pics:

Hi all,

We’re currently awaiting delivery of our XR6T, but based on everything I’ve been reading here I thought I’d give the dealer a call about some of the potential problems outlined with in the forum. One topics was “backlash clunk”, after conferring with one of his tech guys he advised that backlash clunk was an artifact of the fuel injection system manifested in the drive shaft, rather than a problem with the diff. He suggested that because of the way the fuel system works the injectors will sometimes “cut out” (?) when backing off the accelerator suddenly or accelerating sharply.

I’ve no idea if it’s true, but he listed out a couple of other earlier fords that had the same problem, although according to him it’s a characteristic rather than a problem. He then went on to explain that as a result replacing the diff wouldn’t have any impact on it.

It’s worth noting though that the “symptom” he described wasn’t a whine or such coming from the diff but rather a rapid “clunk” from the rear of the drive shaft. He also indicated that backlash clunk should only be noticeable on a manual and that if I were concerned perhaps an auto would be the go…….

EB

Don't be bSd to by the dealer.I personally can't understand the relationship between fuel delivery and the driveline relative to the shunt.

Be assured that the shunt is not only prevalent in manuals but autos as well.

Overall I have loved my T and will continue to do so , absolute pleasure to drive each and every day.I used to think cars are cars .............no more.

Maintain the faith they are a fine , fine car

Enjoy it mate

Dealers are there to deal with the warranty voodoo.

BTW

Welcome EB :ta:

Mate I think you are being told porky pies, which is actually stipulated on page 33 of the Ford service managers customer service manual. Point 2C stipulates "Baffle them with Bullsh*t"

I am now on my third diff and can clarify that the clunking along with the wineing definately comes from the Diff. No clunking on the first, major clunking on the second, some clunking on the third.

Diff noise as per other threads on the forum, but the diffs that have replaced my original one, are worse with noise in different speeds for each diff (if that makes sense). :hrmm:

And there are others here that are in the same boat with the same feedback, so be prepared to let your dealer know you are not going to take any crap! :beerchug: It took me a few goes to realise that!
