Guest Scootre Guests Posted 24/03/04 07:44 AM Share Posted 24/03/04 07:44 AM I have the Ford Bosch 4-head reverse system that was fitted aftermarket. It is sensational. I can reverse park in the tightest of spots (well, I'd never do that to my T) but the rev system is still worth every cent.I can tell you a few things.First, don't get talked into the two-head unit. Buy the 4-head unit. It will only cost a little more and covers behind the car and the angle off the corners.Don't buy the crappy taiwanese ones sold by Sentry. Insist on the genuine Bosch. If you search these forums, you'll find pics of the Bosch unit that gets fitted up under the parcel shelf, so by checking that and the heads in the bumper for the word "Bosch", you'll know you got the genuine article. If you have a tow bar then note that the wiring loom needs changing when the reverse sensors are fitted. This allows the sensors to be disabled if you connect a trailer to the tow plug.I've heard that some units or installations require the car's sound system to be on when reversing. Mine doesn't (I have the premium sound). I don't know what the story is here. Perhaps someone else can say.Lastly, mine was fitted in January by my dealer, Hills Ford. They apprently had some problems getting the units from Thompsons Ford (parts distributors) because when they opened the box, part A and Part B - that I I believe makes up one head, were not matched up in each box. Thompsons ended up tearing open lots of boxes and found that they had a whole heap of mismatched sets. Turns out that of all the boxes in stock, they had enough for one complete set of 4-heads - mine. So when you go to your dealer, tell them to get Thompsons - or whoever they are dealing with, to open and check the boxes!

You will have to get your local Ford dealer to reflash the ECU to recognise the reverse system, as it plays through your audio system. You do have to enable it in the CAN system to be recognised but the sound from the dealer fit units comes from a small speaker in the control unit mounted on the rear parcel shelf. Could never work out why they were called 'tow bars' and what the hell the electrical connection was for!

I'm pretty sure it was cheaper than the Ford system and you can install it yourself. Also, no ugly bullet holes in the back of your car!!Click Me
Guest P'cisT Guests Posted 24/03/04 11:06 AM Share Posted 24/03/04 11:06 AM I've got the genuine Ford ones, but they are just Bosch anyway. They are all good to me. The beeping doesn't come from the audio system but an additional speaker they install.

I would rather walk abit further to get to the shops than get my T damaged. I like the look of the reverse sensors. I am so glad I got them they make parking so much easier!
