HELLO ALL

just got my M.silver 2 weeks ago, I am excited.

I must admit I am a rookie for a new car.

Need some help to understand this monster more :innocent:

1. the dealer told me not to rave up the engine and drive up tp 90km/h before 1000km, but under pear pressure(as u know every one wants to see Turbo) so I raved it up but not in gear for 3 sec. did I damage the engine already?

2. What is the normal fuel consumption for city drive, I am doing about 250km per full tank. It is normal?

3. I am planning to have a trip to Mel, but the car still under 1000km, can I still drive the trip? If I can can anyone give me some tips on driving??

4. I have been looking for after market sound systems, but every one said the factory sysyem wont support the high voltage, and it is no way to fit a new head unit on the dash. My dream of putting woofers was kinda gone..... :( so anyone have had installed any hardcore sounds, please drop a msg. let me know how to achieve...

5. I want to change the front grill, does anyone know any aftermarket kool looking front grill on sale?

6. how many psi does the factory turbo shoot out?

7. and finally I reckon the car smells after driving is it normal? smells like burning but the temp is normal though....

I will be very happy if anyone can give some advice and answer

Very kind Regards

rookie Stevo

Welcome man with long name, enjoy, drive car without flogging it when cold, drive gentle for 30 seconds before shutdown & have fun. How many litres are you doing for 250k's? you should return actual figures not trip comp figures of around 400k's per 60 litres.

1. no you haven't stuffed it

3. yeah you can do a trip, it will infact help the car run in

6. I think about 5 or 6 psi, it varies

7. They all smell after they are new and aren't run in yet, it should stop soon.

In regards to your questions:

1. I doubt very much you have damaged anything. There are a few threads around here on running in techniques.

2. :hrmm: 250km for a FULL tank :o . In freeway conditions, I can easily get 250km from half a tank. Around town, a tank should be good for 400+ kms, even with a heavy foot

3. see 1 above. Most important thing is to vary the revs. No more than about 5ks at the same speed seems to ring a bell.

4. dunno. People here have installed a blaupunkt system, mainly so they can play DVDs on their premium sound. I think it plays other stuff too :beeer:

5. herrod motorsport might do something. Don't know really

6. max boost is 6 psi. Doesn't always put out that though

7. smells like what exactly (settle Ken)? I had a burning plasticy smell for a while, until I removed the plastic clip from the engine that doesn't need to be there and just melts all over the heat shield if you leave it. Might also have been the rubber bands. I also had a wierd smell from the vents after giving the loud pedal a kick. Turned out to be a sign of the water pump O ring dying (which it eventually did, at about 6,000 ks).

PS. Emjoy the site, but keep an eye out for :hrmm:. He is a bad man...

I found for the first few tank fulls that the DTE wasnt very accurate. I was in the same boat - reading 300k's from a full tank and I'm now upto the 460+ area.

The weird smell was the same as mine...quite intoxicating at first...can smell the brakes wearing in..the motor..everything! It goes away within a few weeks. I'm still liking the leather smell though on the inside :innocent:

Dear all

Thank u for your replies, some make me feel better about what happen with car at monment.

By looking at problem with my fuel consumption is seemed very strange,

I will give more details:

I only had two pit stops for last weeks, first one was from 140km to 360km(I know I am reading from the right meter not the computer range km, by the way when I filled up the full tank it tells 397km to go.)

then I am still driving on from the second pit stop it has 600km on it now and only quater tank left(comp says 130 km to go)

........a bit worrying now, but I think I will give it more pit stops then I will update what happen.

Thank u all

Still want to put 2Xwoofers in the boot.........

Does anyone know do we need the sercurity code for audio, if we disconnect from the battery?? (I havent got them......)

I will watch out for the wise old man

peace and regards from rookie stevo

- Try to resist flooring it when cold - not good for any engine.

- I ran my T in by driving it Sydney-Albury-Sydney followed by Sydney-Melbourne-Sydney. As the other post said, vary the Kmph a little. Be aware that Victorian speed cameras are camouflaged (sp?) and may even be on the downside of bridges / overpasses etc - very sneaky, designed to raise revenue not save lives, imo. Also "private cars / vans" may contain a speed camera (one got me at 116 in 110 zone just Vic side of Wodonga, bummer not even 5% latitude {and the speedo is hard to read when the car is new and you're unaccustomed to the guages}

-Sound - I got premium sound, OK for me

-front grill - Herrod is nice; about $185 fitted Brad Garlick Ford

-fuel consumption: mine started at about 22L/100Km, after Syd-Melb-Syd it was showing 12.3, now at 8,400Km it is at 14.5. I get about 350Km per tank in city driving. I drive til the fuel warning chimes at 80Km remaining then fill up with PULP (always)

There is no security code that you need to enter if you disconnect the power from the radio. My understanding is that every time you turn the radio on, it checks an ID code on the car's computer and if it is a different computer it won't work. So basically the radio will only work in your car.
