I have the Premium sound in my car but want more grunt so I went to the local car sound shop and asked what could be done. I mentioned that I had some Pioneer gear that I pulled out of my previous car, 2 amps, some 4way 6 x 9, 10" sub and 6" splits. The car sound said the 6" splits wouldn't fit. He said that the amps could be wired in using RCA converters and suggested that I purchase some 7 x 5" Eclipse brand speakers for $250 for the front. I said I'd never heard of that brand before and asked if maybe he had some Pioneer ones. He reckoned he did, a bit cheaper for $199 but they were basically sh*t and that the Eclipse were better (he didn't elaborate why they were sh*t). He then said the next model up from Eclipse (didn't mention brand name) was about $500 and that they were overpriced for what they were and that Eclipse were better value.

He reccommended just leaving the standard rear speakers and sub in the car. I explained again that I had these Pioneer 6 x 9 and 10" sub just sitting around gathering dust and would like to utilise these if possible. He then started to on about putting the sub in a fibreglass box (why not MDF?) in the boot. I asked what was the point of that, why not just replace the existing sub in the rear parcel shelf. That is a free air one and it would sound sh*t (this seemed to be his technical term for everything!). Never sounded sh*t in my old EB, can't see why it would in the BA I said, and besides the boot is for luggage not for subwoofers. Boot full of subwoofers maybe OK for all the doof doof ricers cruising Lonsdale St on Friday nights but not for me. The only reason I could see why it might not sound any good is because there is carpet covering the underneath of the rear parcel shelf.

He wasn't sure if the rear speakers in the BA are 6 x 9 or if the existing sub was 10 or 8". I'm a bit hesitant about getting work done at this shop after the conversation I had with this guy.

It wasn't Autobarn by any chance was it. I had by stereo installed there in my old car they stuffed the whole car up it wasn't funny.

I think this time I will just stick to the standard Premium Audio. It can't be that bad.

No it wasn't Autobahn (I wouldn't go to a shop like that for advice, I might buy there if the price was right though).

I asked about the size of the speakers over at FF and was told the sub is 8' and the parcel shelf speakers are 7 x 5 same as front. Bloody odd sizes. Why can't Ford be a bit more conventional.

I got some plans somewhere at home for a duel bandpass box with 2 6inch woofers in it, now with a 100 watt (max. the amp in the BAs is 150 watt max) it would out perform a pair of 10s in a pair of ported boxes.

I'll try and find them..

Dave.

I'd be guessing that they are the same as AU. AU are definately 5" x 7" front and rear.

I put JBL 6x9 3 ways in the rear and 5x7 2 ways in the front. BIG improvement over std but a real shyte to get the rears in.

mbrown42,

How bad was it getting the 6 x 9's in? Did you need to cut the metal rear parcel shelf or just the trim? Is it better to put them in from underneath?

Now that I have my T I've looked further into the premium sound and the performance of the subwoofer is a bit ordinary, I might have some ideas soon on how to improve the punchness of the sub. I need to use it for a bit longer and make sure I run the speakers in, yes speakers need to be run in as well before I have a tinker with it, I'll keep you guys posted.
