I've had a na box hold 470awkw, it will be fine at 300rwkw.

If you're going to get an zf it has to be the German 6 speed, the Chinese version can't be tuned.

because there's a reason why the N/A ones are used in N/A applications and the Turbo variants are used in Turbo applications, meaning the N/A one isn't rated for as high torque as the Turbo variant... plus on top of that I've heard of plenty of OEM turbo ZF6's having slip once tuned to 350rwkW+ so I'd expect that the average N/A one wouldn't handle 300kW long-term.

Yep a non tuned turbo trans will start to slip at 350rwkw.

I would happily run a tuned na trans at 300rwkw. Keep the heat out of it and it'll be fine.

I’d obviously rather get a turbo transmission just a matter of what I can actually get locally. See what comes up.

Im going to attempt the mechanical swap work myself… in terms of wiring everything up and getting it driving well any recommendations who I should take it to?

Manual trans swaps seem to fetch $5k for trans, clutch, pedals etc. I imagine you could negotiate a 1:1 swap with someone, but wading through the dreamers will be tough.

Lots of people seem to be opting for the ZF 8 speed swap these days. That's an expensive swap...

The only other thing to factor is that it's a fair risk buying a used ZF. In principle, if you could find one from a wreck with low km maybe it'd be ok, but lots of worn out ones out there. And most people that get them reconditioned seem to have issues.

I think your idea is sound. In Melb you could have a chat with Max Performance to give you a ballpark. They might even recommend someone else.

So Maxx Performance got back to me pretty quickly with the below. What we think?

“Hi Jonathan,

You can bolt ZF and tailshaft in, run the shifter cables and mount the shifter, we can wire and get the car running properly with that transmission.

We can use your manual ECU, the patch loom is $550 and the labour + any extra things we need is going to be approximately $880.

Total $1,430.

Let me know what you think and we can go from there”
