Persistent sump leak on bf mk2 xr6 turbo

Hi,

My mechanic that I have used for over 12yrs has replaced my sump gasket twice due to a leak. The 2nd time was a warranty job after the first still leaked. 

I only drive it on weekends and start during the week.

Again after a few weeks the leak has come back. I have taken it back and he looked at it and says it is weeping on the seam where the casting of the sump joins in the middle at the back.  He said it is dry above the sump and this can happen and was common in the early Commodores also.

Has anyone else had or heard of this issue.

It is a very tidy car and in good condition.  Just this leak is frustrating the hell out of me.

I'd be asking for a 2nd opinion from a mechanic/tuner who specializes in falcon motors.

Oil leaks can be fixed. Find the leak. Fix the leak. Hope this helps.

My fgx has got an annoying leak like yours, iv had sump off twice, I thought it was coming from the front half moon seal but its not, also one of the 8mm head  bolts near the front that hold the sump on always has oil on the bolt head. It kinda looks like it may be seeping out the seam in the middle of the sump also. I sealed the sump on really well last time I did it. It is really annoying. I wondered if a pro alloy welder could weld the seam on the sump without taking it off, but its a bit of a risk of weld protruding into inside of sump. Maybe get a new sump.

I might be wrong but I'm going to suggest that any leak that hits the sump is always going to gather on that seam. I reckon a leak from there is pretty unlikely.

Recently saw a trick where you clean everything down and spray foot powder or something everywhere so that the path the leaking oil is taking is much easier to find.

Front crank seal and front half moon seal can look pretty similar in terms of where the oil gathers too
