Hi all, ok its just hit 4,000 ks and im over this steering issue ( shudder )

To keep it simple its making a hell of a noise and its not right!

yep, u know the one, low idle hard steering turns in reverse rolling forward

I have had the car in the workshop yesterday and they pulled the rack out and adjusted and tightened the nuts and inserted washers on it, only to find the noise is still there and louder than ever...

it only does it when the car is moving at very low speed and when the wheel is turning from left to right and braking slightly at the same time...

any how I returned it to the dealership and they are saying that it cant be fixed and that its normal for these cars to do it....

im not happy and certainly not satistied with that for an answer...

whats the deal people, am I the only one hearing this, should we just ignore it and keep driving oir what...

any suggestions to the way about fixing it?

please help

Marty

Marty, they removed and replaced the bolts that secured my rack, they oiled the bolts as well, not sure what difference oiling threads does, but my shudder is now gone......

My shudder was evident when reversing up my driveway.

They also did the same to mine (Put oil on the bushes and replaced the washers) and the when I took it get the steering wheel alignment corrected at a professional steering/wheel alignment place he said that is a short term fix if that's what they did and it will probably come back.

I have only put 1500km's on it since I got it fixed in November and it hasn't looked like coming back.

So maybe the oil is a big factor in stopping the shudder when turning?? :ermm:

Yeah, im not 100% sure now whether they oiled my bolts or the bushes!!!

all this talk about oil has me confused :ermm:

 Much the same im thinking MS700. Im not much up on the technical lingo but they did put oil somewhere to do with the steering column.

I have the same prob, I have been told by different people that mine was due to air in the pwr steering lines? :ta:

First time I have heard about the oil and bolts etc. :ermm:

Hmm might be another phone call to the dealer me thinks.....

Hey Ducati JB,

Do you know what your dealer did to resolve the low speed steering shudder? If you dont; can you please ask them for me.

My dealers replaced the power steering pump and rack yet it still shudders!!!! I've done figure of 8's and my dealers had the car up on the hoist and turned the wheels from lock to lock 40 times to try and bleed air from the system and all the other VOO DOO METHODS which Ford claim to fix the problem and the shudder STILL remains!!!!!!!

One thing I do know is the 8 cyclinder cars dont have any problem! The've a different pump bolted directly to the passenger side of the block with a remote oil reservoir mounted onto the thermo fan shroud panel! No V8's have steering shudder that I know of. Maybe this setup is the real fix!

FORD ARE YOU READING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ermm:

Yeah, no shudder here. No diff whine either. It seems the 6's have some problems all to themselves. The shared stuff like brake shudder and clunky manual diffs are fun though.
