The Manufacturer's first question was whether it was a T and then proceeded to openly admitt they had a problem with only the T diffs as all feedback has been noise at around 95km/h mark... What a lot of rubbish. The diff in the T is the same as the diff in the GT. The XR8 only differs from it by ratio also.

My dealer has only ftted new diffs to T's only. Take it with a grain of salt.

In short it is Fixed... Whooo Hoo... Here is what they do...The have a small (specificly designed) computer in a alloy case. (Big $$) They put the car up on the hoist. They fit a device like a rpm counter to the body of the car (Magnetic on the buttom chasis.) and they fit a small sticky reflective label to the tail shaft just behind the front uni.. This counts the RPM of the tail shaft. They then place a vibration sensor to the Diff housing (again magnetic). They then remove all the existing counter weights on the rear uni. The rear unit has 6 studs. In between each stud a plastic bracket can be placed with a small peice of lead embeded in it, similar to a wheel weight but plastic and clips on. They mark each space between the studs (black texta) with a number. (0 to 5) the small reflective label is alighed with gap 0 on the back uni (After recording what weights went where). They then put the car near the groud (still on the hoist) and run the car up to 115K/h in 3rd gear (on the auto) and the computer measures the vibration from the diff housing. Then they put a excesivly high counter weight on the back uni say 14g. Then run it again. The computer again measures the vibration and makes a recomendation as to what weight and where it should be placed on the back uni. I am not sure what mine was to start with but the vibration at the end was measured to be .03m/s. Apparently you can feel anything over 2m/s (I think that is the correct terminology of the measurment). I then took the car for a spin with Luke (from FORD). What can I say. MUCH better. It was like new... One happy camper as the vibration was begingin to p!ss me off..I would like to say a personal thanks to Luke for spending time to expain the process (and discuss other issues that we have been having).. And to Sunford for allowing me into their workshop to see the process take place... I was getting fairly grumpy before yesterday with this issue... But now... I happy again. Glad they finally fix it for ya :o , I've got a diff on order at the moment and hopefully my problem will be fixed. I will make sure they have the balancing tool on hand when they do it as I will be like you a very pi$$ed off customer if its not done properly the first time. Guest rodxr6t Guests Posted 30/04/04 10:25 AM Share Posted 30/04/04 10:25 AM Email received from the service manager of my Ford dealer today-------------------------------------------Mick has finally got a reply from Dana diffs. They are painfullyaware of the issues and are trying to find a fix but don't actually havea test diff that will fix the concern yet. They are still working on it.When something becomes available through the official system, I will bepleased to let you know.---------------------------------------------I've had two diff's on two different T's and while the last replacement is the best of the lot and they had the tailshaft balancer on hand when the job was done (absolutley a must) the diff's still are not perfect by any means.I'm still pursuing this with the dealer and will keep after it until I get satisfactiion, hope they get it right by the time the series two hit the dealers floors. The guy I spoke to from FORD (Luke) is painfully aware of the diff issue. (crown wheel and pinion at 90k/h)He advised that the main issue is transfer of the noise into the cabin as it (the Diff)is now bolted to the subfloor of the car via the IRS set up. Where as I'll bet there are no / limited Utes or Wagons that have the issue due to the leaf spring arrangement..It is all about noise dampening.. They are working on it..... Mine has the wine in the second diff (only slight). I am going to live with it. (Unless it starts to clunk and carry on again... I know I must sound like a I work for FORD... I dont.. Just trying to see it from both sides...

Are there any other utes out there with this issue?Trent.
