Latest fix the PCM (Powertrain Control module) can be updated with the latest software. It is designed to improve gearshift quality and reduce the driveline clunk. Although mine is an auto and near the end (just before the change) when rolling to a stop when it dropped into 1st it would give a shunt. In talking to the dealer if it only had the shunt they would not replace it but cos mine had the hard left turn nouse, the wine and the clunk the replaced it.WhiteTee,Mate. If yours only has the whine at 90-100Ks then I would leave it till it gets anoying. As if they do not have the tail shaft balancer on hand when they do it you will end up with a new diff with possibly the same problem AND a vibration at 90-100 as well... Your choice. Mine has a whine at exactly 95ks only, otherwise ok. Might be better off leaving the blighter as is. Dealer gave me some story about the replacement diffs being made to order and are stronger , hence the 2 week quoted wait.Probably usual BS that we get fed, anyone else heard this ? I think you are being fed the preverbial White Tee, as the service manager showed me the process they go through to order a new one. He said he had placed a call to talk to the manufacturer directly as if they order one it is all done ONLINE no human interaction whatsoever! This was because I asked for the old one to be refitted and they said they could not, this is when they took me through the ordering procedure etc.He showed me the forms filled out for my new diff online. The Manufacturer's first question was whether it was a T and then proceeded to openly admitt they had a problem with only the T diffs as all feedback has been noise at around 95km/h mark.Wait for it, apparently they are working on an upgraded diff to resolve the problem! The only thing is this could be 3 months away as it is still appparently in development. This means that once it is established then you have testing etc on cars until they clock up a few kays.The service manager offered to change the diff again, but said I will probably end up with the same thing so they are going to balance the tailshaft and I am going to play it by ear with my diff for now. :( At this stage this seems to be the only solution unless someone has been given different one, or has any other ideas? Rabitt,Mate. Yes you are correct. But this was not the only problem. But yes it had only just started to happen. (not the drive line shunt issue). My car had done 40,000ks by this time. JB,Mine has the whine back again. I did hear that they were working on a fix also 96 weeks ago) so I will mention the issue to the dealer again and wait for the new FIX to come before getting it changed again.. twinxrs Member 202 Member For: 21y 6m 8d Location: Sydney Posted 19/03/04 11:55 AM Share Posted 19/03/04 11:55 AM Yes, mine also has the whine, on a decent road you can hear it as early as 80kph, but by 95kph it's really strong.Have tried to report it to the local dealer, but as they're in a suburban area, they aren't able to find it...I must admit, I'm not eager to get this "fixed" - my series I AU XR6 VCT had a bad diff replaced (manufacturing fault I was told) after 18 months, but the replacement only lasted 6 months and turned out to be worse than the original ! rakrzy Member 32 Member For: 21y 3m 25d Location: Melbourne Posted 31/03/04 01:37 PM Share Posted 31/03/04 01:37 PM Hmmm.....getting scared now!!!I have a new diff on order,....however the whine is still low levels so not sure I want to risk getting an unbalanced tailshaft (having finally had the boby vibrations fixed,tyre related) getting it replaced.Dealer was quick to accept that the diff was faulty, so maybe Ford has admitted internally that its common, in that case good on em'.Not that I'm complaining, I'm definately not happy with the whine,My whine's finished!
