Bawwxay Member 54 Member For: 2y 4m 7d Posted 03/07/23 11:35 AM Share Posted 03/07/23 11:35 AM With all the knowledge everyone has acquired over the years, what would the best transmission fluid be to put in a 2005 BA XR6 T5 manual transmission that’s behind a 240kw Barra turbo? I know they recommend DEXRON 2 and some sort of additive but I was thinking Penrite 75w80 gear oil? (As recommended by the penrite page ha) I am about to service the gearbox and not sure what to put in it as it’s out of a standard xr6 non turbo and I want to make sure the fluid helps preserve the gearbox as best as possible whilst giving the smoothest shifts. recommendations please 🙏 (I realise the best solution is a t56 but that’s later on lol)

It's a manual, shifts are never going to be amazing

That's all you need, no additive. It's fine for the purpose of use in a T5

Bawwxay Member 54 Member For: 2y 4m 7d Posted 24/07/23 03:57 AM Author Share Posted 24/07/23 03:57 AM (edited) Would it be perfectly safe and fine to run Penrite transgear 75w80 semi synth (as the penrite website recommends)? would it also be safe and would there be any downside or issues running Penrite progear 70w75 full synth? I just want to service the box and make sure it’s in tip top shape for being a daily as best I can, without knowing what fluid has been used in it already. pushing 240+kw in a 182 t5 I want to make the right choice 😅 Edited 24/07/23 04:00 AM by Bawwxay

Bawwxay Member 54 Member For: 2y 4m 7d Posted 24/07/23 04:10 AM Author Share Posted 24/07/23 04:10 AM Thanks, that explains a lot haha which of the two would be better to go for smoother shifts then and regular servicing? Since nursing the extra power is the safest bet to keep the t5 happy.
