Not at all, it fits nicely between the gap and you don't even see it go down.

I get a full 5watt output so there is no signal loss what so ever.

thanks for the speedy reply...just gotta make my mind up on what system and what setup now :ta:

Hi guys,

As Trumpy said I'm offering GME units very cheap.

I'm aware not all members have access to the donating members section. If there's anyone that can't view this thread but wants to know what the prices are PM me and I'll let you know.

Thanks,

Adam. :o

I've added in some docco and pics on how to install a Uniden UH-013 CB into a BA Falcon.

They are located on http://gadan.info/cb.

And if you can afford it, go for a 5watter, as in the near future it would be a great help to use the CTCSS feature the higher spec models offer.

This enables us to have private conversations, rather than be open for the whole world to hear what we are saying.

Especially effective in the country where some police stations listen in on the UHF band.

I could be wrong as its been a while since I played with this stuff but CTCSS or Continious Tone Coded Squelch Suppression simply uses the same RF channel as usual, but you also send and the recieving person's CB 'listens' for a low frequency (inaudible) tone durring transmission.

So you set CTCSS to on your CB will be muted (the squelch turned right up) and you do not hear all the extra chit chat 'crap' on the air, as your squelch is muting the signal.

It will only unmute and allow you to listen when someone is talking AND transmitting the correct tone.

As the tone is inaudible you cannot hear the tone but you can hear the other person.

But I think anyone else who does not have CTCSS can also hear what you are both saying as you are using a normal UHF CB channel, and their CB is not set to mute.

CTCSS on CB's is just a way of eliminating the chatter from unwanted user's, not stopping others listening to you. If you have it you can put the scrambler on but anyone else with a scrabling CB can listen in too.

But I could be wrong.... :hiwelcome:

You are correct.

CTCSS does not give you a private channel, it will only mean you hear the other people on the same channel and CTSS. If someone was on the same channel they would hear everything, but you could not hear them.

a glass mount antenna that looks like a mobile phone aerial. My glass mount has 2 "whips" that screw on / off. One is very short and looks like a phone aerial, the other you would have seen on the weekend that I only use on cruises for extra range.

Trumpy,

got a make/model for your aerials? Did you install your setup yourself?

cheers mate

Trumpy's antenna is here:

You get both whips with the aerial package. Cost is about $114 - $130.

You can buy it from DSE.

I had one of these when I first got my CB.

Can I just ask why you guys need to go to the battery to source power? that's isnt required, just get the power off the cigarett lighter, running it from the battery is very messy and a waste of time.

The best way to run the aerial is put it on the drivers side rear boot gutter, and run the cable through the actual wiring hole where the number plate light power runs / spoiler light etc. If you run it over the rubber seal you may find your car with a boot full of water after some heavy rain.

Ive had many UHFs, had the UNIDEN one as picture above as well as the GME 3200, personally I found the GME much easier to use, with a better speaker on it aswell.

If you mount it properly in the tissue box holder like mine, you dont need the extra speaker either, that's just an add on!

Also one other thing to watch out for, if you use the UNIDEN model pictured on the website linked to in this thread, make sure you dont put it close to the drivers side in the tissue box holder otherwise you will hit your finger on the handpiece plug adaptor pulling the hand brake on.

Anyways after all that, if you dont need a UHF all the time, just buy a TX6000 or alike with the optional handpiece, works out about the same money with the 5 watt advantage of a portible. That way no holes etc. in the car, plus with the newer GME models you can program an extra 20 scanner frequency channels, which can be Police/Ambos or pretty much anything your interested in.
