I've created a quick FAQ as well on my website.

It has most of the information listed in the first post, only in the one place.

Please note, don't buy anything under a 2watt system as the range is very crap.

And if you can afford it, go for a 5watter, as in the near future it would be a great help to use the CTCSS feature the higher spec models offer.

This enables us to have private conversations, rather than be open for the whole world to hear what we are saying.

Especially effective in the country where some police stations listen in on the UHF band.

Ken,

As trumpy said, a VOX headseat like I was using on snowies and a glass mount aerial like trumpy has, all good.

Give me a call and I'll explain further..

Trumpy, Cro,

Thanks guys, I might just give you a call Cro. I found it a little dangerous on the Snowy's cruise reaching for the "on" button on the hand-held I have.

:hrmm:

I agree with ken (amazing that really). The on button was very hard to find at times, especially when a certain feline had it wedged into her ear.

I couldn't find it.

Anyhow, because of this I will probably be trading in a brand new Uniden UH050 for a hands free model, with in hands free system.

If anyone wants a UH-050 (used once) then I will post a price when I find what I am going to replace it with. :innocent:

my 2 cents worth

should have just got the best one first time around!

Let me know how this goes Kenneth. I might just invest in one of these (a good one).

I have just edited the first post.

Added a new link to the Donating Member section. alxr6t is able to get very discounted rates on GME Electrophone gear. Thanks to Adam for offering to help out other forum members.

I have also added links to GME's and Uniden's websites, so that you can gather any info you need.

Guys, cro in particular...

just thinking about how your aerial is mounted...does the cable suffer any damage/loss of performance from the boot clamping down on the cable?

Not at all, it fits nicely between the gap and you don't even see it go down.

I get a full 5watt output so there is no signal loss what so ever.
