I was under the impression you needed an amateur radio operators license for anything over 5 watts...

Yes, anything over 5watts requires you to have an AROL (covers you up to 120watt output on certain frequencies).

Thanks for the info guys.

Cro, I will be using your instructions and Pete, thanks for the idea to put in in the Satnav spot.  I did not know the "remote" part of the unit had such a long cord.

XRB, I know GME are much better, but I got a deal on the Uniden unit, so its already sorted.  I have also ordered the onglass ariel that pete suggested.

I hope to have it all done over easter.

Zop,

I think Pete prefers to be called Phil on the forum. :spoton:

However, one weekend in March each year he is known as "PHILLIS" :yikes::spit:

Cheers.

I have met the man a few times, but it is hard to remember all the fine people's real names that I meet offline. :yikes:

hi guys I was reading your thread and thought I would chuck in 2 cents.

I have the icom 400 pro 25 watts works great in the car I used the rfi elevated feed antenna 4.5 db.

the radio fitted in the tissue box slot no probs.

this was in the ba havnt fitted one to the bf yet.

if you have the radio base mounted in the boot as I have seen here it might help to cut the coax cable a little longer than u need.

63 cm should be fine.

longer lengths of cable can be in multiples of 63.3.

I was a little scepticle but I did it and I get better recive now.

Hi Guys,

Having been on some cruises now, I think that some of you may want to buy yourself a UHF CB radio.

So, I'm currently working with a Uniden sales rep to secure special prices for Uniden UHF CB Radios and accessories for forum members. Hopefully it will be with a retailer that has a presence in each Capital city.

Will let you know more as things progress. The sales rep I'm working with has his own T which I'm hoping will help :crybaby:

Please have a look at the Uniden link below and give me an idea of their products that you would be interested in so that I can put this to him.

I don't get any commission or kick-back from this, just doing it as a service for forum members to enhance cruise experiences :censored:

Thanks.

Breaker breaker...

I'd only consider getting one if it had an in built scanner, trouble is though, all emergency and police radio traffic is switching over to digital at the end of this year, and a digital scanner costs nearly a grand.

Interested to see what Uniden do for a Digi Scanner.

Well, color me blue. I learned something new today and that was Australia didn't like HF CB as much as they do UHF. I almost stuck my foot in it saying that CB isn't UHF (1m to 10cm wavelength, typically is most parts of the world, it isn't, it's HF (100m to 10m wavelength). :fool:

Hi Cro,

Not sure how this will pan out. Still need to work out who the retailer will be for us and not sure how long that will take. The guy I know only wholesales to retailers.

I have a Uniden UH015sx and it is a great radio.

The head unit is velcrowed infront of the tissuebox holder and the main unit is under the passengers seat. I have a onglass ariel and it all works very well.

I can recommend the UH015sx as a easy to fit radio that has some extra features like a scanner.
