I was hoping to pick some brains on the best way to get a UHF CB Installed without making it too visable.

I was thinking of the Uniden UH015SX 5W 40 Channel UHF 60 Channel Scanner, It's a remote unit so is easier to mount, I do not want it visable looking into the car.

I need advice on the Ariel as I would like it to look like a mobile phone window mount, but I have heard they are not very good for decent ranges, but I do not want a body mounted one.

As for mounting the unit, I think that inside the center console with the main box either under the passenger seat or under the console.

Zap,

My Uniden UH013 Install

My RFI Unity 3db Glass Mount Antenna

I installed the main unit in the DVD slot of the boot with the control unit and speaker up the front.

RFI AP454 Glass Mount 3 dB

The RFI antenna has two whips - 20cm & 75cm (3db). The smaller one looks just like a mobile phone aerial with decent coverage, but whenever you want some more power just screw on the 3db antenna and away you go.

I've done up a page on this a while back when I still had the blue car.

I still have the same unit, different aerial, the face is mounted in the tissue box holder rather than underneath it and I'm using a proper speaker mounted above the rear vision mirror.

Here is the docco on how to install, antenna strength variables, etc..

Here are pics of my current aerial

This is a pic of where my remote face is mounted. I'm just using double sided tape and it's stayed put for 1.5 years with constant use.

Do yourself a favour, buy a GME UHF. Uniden is crap and we dont use them in in the trucks, I have a GME in my XR6 and a Uniden (GRRR) in my ute, sadly the uniden as pictured in Cros car was sitting in the cupboard and I couldnt be bothered spending another 400 on a GME, but to be honest in comparison to the GME its a piece of sh*t!! so bad in fact I had to have another speaker mounted under the dash...

My XR6 has antenna that's not visable at all, its a clear plastic thing that goes across the upper inside of the windscreen, I found it better then the glass mount whip one as it seem to give me nothing but wind noise. If your looking for some serious output get an antenna like cro has, I have one of these on the work ute and its good, specially when you put the 9 DB extension on it when going out on the open highway.

If your really serious then buy an Icom unit, they are by Far the best out of anything you can buy!

:wtf:

Thanks for the info guys.

Cro, I will be using your instructions and Pete, thanks for the idea to put in in the Satnav spot. I did not know the "remote" part of the unit had such a long cord.

XRB, I know GME are much better, but I got a deal on the Uniden unit, so its already sorted. I have also ordered the onglass ariel that pete suggested.

I hope to have it all done over easter.

buying a uhf with a scanner would be a good option a while ago there are only a few police areas that are using the analog system in sydeny they are now digital

but if you like hearing agl ETC that's different

myself I would not buy a uhf with less than 25 watts so when you are on a cruise the only person to be heard is you

I was under the impression you needed an amateur radio operators license for anything over 5 watts...

Is this right?
