It has wideband and a detachable face. AM is pretty uselsss as hardly anybody uses it so you would be just paying for something that won't get used.True. Just thought I would investigate, as its $100 cheaper than the UH-013 at the moment. If its essentially the same, but just doesn't have a detachable face, I could live with a useless AM band. Being a complete novice, what is this wideband you speak of? Wideband I guess to some is pretty useless aswell. however, I love it. It's a wider band range (outside the normal 40) and you can listen to police, fire and ambulance. Often when I'm driving up the coast I'll have the police scanner on, theres always plenty of interesting stuff to be heard. Also, when theres a road block due to an accident(which seems to be a regular occurance on the Princes Hwy these days), you just switch to wideband and you can listen to whats happened/happening, who's involved and basically what's going on. You cannot transmit on these channels and yes, it is legal to listen in.

The one I was asking about is both AM and UHF in the one unit. All its missing, compared to the UH-013, is a scanner (and a detachable face). Its also $100 cheaper. It's a good radio. From memory you need two aerials if you want to make use of both AM and UHF.If you just want to use one, buy the appropriate aerial. You might find it hard to mount, as it is pretty long, you wouldnt be able to stick it out of your tissue box or underneath it without it sticking out by a fair bit. That is where the detachable face comes into good use.The scanner on the other hand is useless, I hardly use it. Only if I'm stuck in traffic behind an accident, or if I'm being pulled over.

Can someone please enlighten me on the following ponderances that I ponder upon :When using the Duplex Repeater Channels ( eg 07 in Sydney ), what determines who can be heard amongst all of the people trying to have their say ? Is it a case of he with the most powerful transmitter reigns supreme.....or is it first in ?There always seems to be a "raving" lunatic who manages to hog the channel and waffle on and on about nothing.....something that appears to be the case on several channels. With a handheld Scanner ( eg Uniden 044 ), is there any chance of being heard by others or am I wasting my endless talents and wit on myself ?A brief summary would be appreciated.Honest Gaza
