BF MKII Shift Knob Removal T56

Hey, I'm having a lot of trouble finding any sort of guides on how to remove the shift knob itself. I want to replace the gel top of the shift knob as mine is worn to sh*t.

I have the replacements but the instructions it came with don't tell me how to remove it and any info I can find on how to remove the shift knob is either conflicting or incomplete.

unbolt it from underneath the shifter surround (two nuts/bolts holding the shaft & knob to the actual gearbox selector) and then take that entire setup and put it in the oven to heat it up gently to loosen the glue and then take it out and with the metal arm in a vice or other held location and then pipe-wrench or whatever on the knob to get it off.

How hot are we talking? The leather on it isn't great but I'd like to keep it as good as I can and you can't remove the boot without taking the knob off, right?

I can't remember the specifics... shouldn't need to get super hot...
