Note: This is not a FordXR6Turbo event, but it will help the progress of the XR6Turbo Club of Aus.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and have been researching a bit. I find it will be a lot cheaper for myself, and others who are interested (which is why I am posting here) if we do this in a group.

I've contacted Ian Luffs office which uses Oran Park skid pan and raceway in Sydney for all their driver training excercises.

They host three stages of driver training.

Stage 1 Drive to Survive

Your 8-hour course commences at 8.20am at our purpose built driver training complex with check-in and registration. Tea and coffee is served on arrival with a meet and greet of fellow attendees and the Ian Luff Motivation Australia team. An introduction and outline of the day's activities sets the scene for a unique day of learning. It doesn't matter if you drive a small sedan, large family vehicle, sports car or four wheel drive - tuition is relevant to each individuals level of skill. By simulating normal driving conditions and situations that could confront you should an emergency arise, it's comforting to know all you may hit are our soft plastic traffic cones.

An investment in Ian Luff's Drive to Survive programme is like an insurance policy on your very own safety. Our proven results show that with correct development and education it can save you from costly claims, significant damage, or possible injury and best of all it's fun. Graduates will also receive a certificate of completion.

Stage 2 Advanced Car Control

As an excellent means to further develop your knowledge and driving skills, our Stage 2 car control course is available for graduates who have succesfully completed the Stage 1 Drive to Survive programme. This 1 day comprehensive course further refines your vehicle handling skills with a lot more emphasis on skid control and accident prevention . Participants will learn various advanced techniques that will enhance driving habits, heighten awareness of the driver-vehicle relationship, as well as respond correctly in emergency situations.

Our Stage 2 course allows you to explore your car's potential while developing various manoeuvres within a non-threatening environment. Through experience, we have found that when it's enjoyable, you will learn more. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion.

Stage 3 Performance Driving

Ian Luff's Performance Driving Programme is for the enthusiast-the driver who places a lot of emphasis on enjoying his or her motoring. Attendees must have succesfully completed our Stage One course to be eligible.

Our one day Taking Speed Off The Roads course is conducted at a motor racing venue, so there are no problems with on-coming traffic or speeding tickets. Ian Luff and his team will show participants how to corner more efficiently, throttle and brake. You use your own vehicle to develop better feel and understanding of the upper limits of control - learning everything from entry, to apex (clipping point) and exit. In fact, this will probably be the best experience and most fun you can have.

Ian Luff's organisation is also accredited by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) for those participants wishing to take their skills into motor racing at any level.

Whatever your motives, we guarantee life in the fast lane will never be boring - you won't get the smile off your face! Graduates receive a certificate of completion and Performance Driving ID card to remember your day of fun in the fast lane.

I am giving every one a lot of notice, as this is not cheap by any means.

I am still working on group pricing, but normally per person these are the costs:

1) STAGE ONE - DRIVE TO SURVIVE: Weekday - $265.00

Saturday Surcharge - $15

This 1 day (8 hour) programme is ideal for increasing car handling skills and lifting awareness levels using both wet and dry conditions.

2)

STAGE TWO - ADVANCED CAR CONTROL: Weekday - $275.00 Saturday Surchage - $15

Excellent follow up to Stage 1 with more advanced technique in skid and slide control on Skid Pan. Stage 1 Drive to Survive is a pre-requsite.

3)

STAGE THREE - PERFORMANCE DRIVING: Weekday $345.00

Approved by CAMS for competition licence endorsement. Ideal for learning all racing aspects or enjoying a "speedfix". Stage 1 Drive to Survive is a pre-requisite.

Personally I would like to do all three courses. Doing courses one and three can help you get your CAMS C3 license with the following conditions:

You need to get a medical check from a CAMS affiliated Doctor

You need to be a member (active or not) with a CAMS affiliated club. Eg. FPV - Tickford Club of Australia.

If members of the future XR6Turbo club of Aus have a CAMS license, it will make it a lot easier for the club to become CAMS affiliated, which will enable track days, skid pan days, etc.. on most tracks in Australia, rather than just Wakefield Park.

We can either do the day as a single group, or in a mix.

As a group we have the following benefits:

We all have the same/similar cars so it will be easier for the instructor to teach us

It will be cheaper

We can do some of the stages back to back (eg. Friday stage 1, Saturday Stage2).

I will be booking this within 30 days, and there are some limits on the amount of drivers allowed:

Stage 1 = Maximum of 24 drivers

Stage 2 = Maximum of 20 drivers

Stage 3 = Maximum of 18 drivers

This program is 100% indorsed by CAMS, and I think it will be a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun.

I believe since we drive performance cars, we need to learn how to drive them properly. This may help prevent dates with guard rails on one of our cruises as happened to me last year.

Is there any one else interested in this?

If so, what stages are you interested in?

I did a defensive driving course back when I first got my P-plates (something about Dad not giving me any of his keys until he could trust me). Of course that was a loooonnggg time ago, so this sounds like a lot of fun.

Most likely interested in Stages 1 & 2, not sure if I would ever feel the need for Stage 3 but you never know..... :veryangry:

G'day all...

I did the 'Drive to survive' Ian Luff Motivation Course late last year and recommend it 100%.

You learn quite a bit about how far you can push your car etc..

I think the scariest part was having his son Warren (now a DJR Supercar driver) behind the wheel putting her through her paces...Let's just say I'm glad I wore dark pants....

My 2 cents worth.

HI Cro

I would love to do this... I really want to now how to drive the car much better.

My only problem is that as the year gets on I get busier and thus won't be able to do much from July-Nov.

So the sooner the better would be good and I would like to do all 3 of the courses.

Thanks

I'm interested, but I've already done a drive to survive course a few years ago (through work) with one of Luff's competitors...

I'm really not interested in paying $265 for a repeat of a drive to survive course - there's that Stage 1 upgrade that I'm saving for... :finger:

I would be really interested in Stage 2 (Advanced Car Control) - of course since I haven't done Stage 1 with Ian Luff I'm out of luck ! :banghead:

I'm going to try AAMS to see if they are running any courses soon.

What are people more interested in ? A basic driver safety course, or something that will allow us to get the most from the XR6T's power & handling ?

You can still do stage 2 without stage 1.

Stage 1 is compulsary for stage 3 only.

The description for Stage 2 (above) says

Stage 1 Drive to Survive is a pre-requsite.

But if they are prepared to waive that requirement, then I'm certainly interested in Stage 2 ! :banghead:
