Anyone had any leaking issues with the Ryco z373 fuel filter? Fitted a new one today on the fg xr6t. Done up tight and it leaks, threads and lines look good just doesnt seem to seal.

The old filter is a Ryco z373 also but its about half a cm smaller in lengh and is steel rather than aluminum. Maybe the aluminum doesn't like being done up too tight? 🤔

Any advice appreciated 🙏

Just my 2 cents, but I tried one of the ryco ones, it was shorter than factory one so I flagged it and went genuine

Length of the filter body doesn't dictate the area of filtering material. You need to cut a filter open to see the length of the material inside, once stretched out.

Some are much longer than others which gives them much more area.

Edit: do them up hand tight then give them another 1/4 turn with a filter tool.

when you say "filter tool" do you mean an aluminium spanner to not mar the hex nut connectors? or do you mean a filter tool as in one that grabs onto the body of the filter itself like an oil-filter thingo? ... I only ever had trouble getting the standard filter undone (because some people over-tighten them), never had trouble getting one installed.

You should tighten it past the recommended tightness. Use whatever you want to do it whether it is a 3 pronger, an adjustable circle or a spanner/socket. A 1/4 turn is generic but close enough, just give it more than you can do with your hands unless you are strong af like yours truly xD

Think about the oil pressures that modern cars run compared to the sh*tboxes of the 70's. You wanna make sure the filter is good and tight or it will leak.

this is fuel filter chat, not oil filter... fuel pressure has been high since injection systems were first devised haha

Ok well there ya go... gotta love my attention to detail lately xD

Lemme tell ya something about fuel filters then...

Ya see what happens is people will over tighten the filter and that changes the shape of the flare on the fuel pipe, which makes it leak unless it's done up tight af again. There is enough slack in the fuel line to account for minor differences in filter length.

Moral to that story is you have to do them up tight as fark until they stop leaking.

FFS I have the same issue.  I keep nipping it up but it keeps leaking.  I've got to the point now where it's super tight.  I feel like I'm going to strip something if I go any tighter.  Do I seriously just keep tightening it?
