Hey guys

Just picked up a 2005 xr6t vixen red, really really excited!

The only let down is the car has 248,000 kms(I know its alot but it was for $5k) but completely stock.

I do know alot of things tend to wear out in these cars especially with that many kms, and I see everyone asking for "best first mods" but I wanted to ask what should I be looking at changing/fixing before any mods or power considering the high kms and no history.

Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks!

All the basics really

* waterpump

* radiator & hoses

* belts

* turbo for shaft play or bearing sound

* suspension components and bushes especially the rear end cradle

* intercooler hose clamps

* breaking system

248klms is up there but if the cars been maintained well and had some of the high wear parts replaced which I'm sure it has it should give you trouble free motoring for a while.

is it on the original BA motor? If so I wouldn't be tuning it with that many Kays they had weak rods to begin with and with that many kays I wouldn't be upping the power unless you have the budget for a motor.

Yea the Falcons up until mid 2006 had very thin rods... it's not that you can't make power they can make up around 300rwkw with the BA engine but with that many Kays and unknown history boosting it up is not what I'd be doing if your hoping for longevity..... If you do decide to boost it up just have cash ready for Another motor....

is it an auto or manual?

yea cooler pipes coming loose is a common issue what colour is the car? Any options on it?

Its the sh*tty 4 speed auto surprisingly seems tighter and better then my fg which has 150,000kms, the car is vixen red mk2 2005.I was thinking if I put a gas motor bottom end howd that be? And does that have to be a turbo gas motor or can I get a normal N/A gas motor bottom end.

I just took the car for a spin right now and the car is rattling alot now over 2.5k revs, looks like it might be coming from exhaust.

Got a budget?

Ultimate budget for bang package.
eBay 500x400x90 cooler
eBay coldside piping kit.
Custom intake pipe (3-4" 45deg silicone, 4" 45 deg ally pipe and pod filter)

Port wastgate and 12psi actuator.

4" dump and hi flow cat.

1000cc injectors, Walbro 460 fuel pump and run it on E85 to save the rods.

Will make 300kw easy, or could lean on it to 350-400.

This will turn your 4sp to scrap metal pretty quick. Right ready for a 6sp manual conversion.

Plus you will need a set of coils, and spark plugs, and valve springs, and whatever timing chain/guides are broken when you take the front timing cover off. Then turn turbo will probably sh*t itself.

Gas bottom end is a gas bottom end there's no variation between them....yea a green top would be good can push it to the point it makes great power really a lot more power Then the 4 speed can handle....

Gaz's suggestions are pretty on the money for budget power but you have to decide exactly how much you have/want to spend.....

ultimate budget combo:

* 1000cc injectors

* walbro pump 460

*cheap cooler

*dump pipe 100 cell cat

* intake stuff Gaz suggested

* port waste gate plus actuator

Turn it up to around 300rwkw

and I'd be doing it all on a newer turbo motor or green top (can go way more on one of these engines but your transmission will no longer want to live plus you may start to wreck other driveline components)....

what's your budget? Then we can best advise you.

I am going to do everything slowly so get a inter cooler one week then injectors next week and so on, how much power would the 4 speed  take till it sh*ts itself?

Just one more thing this is my first turbo car, ive had 2 ba N/A  xr6 b4, I really want that turbo dose, and it seems like everyone is blocking the bov and putting a dose pipe, what do u guys think is it harmful, I dont expect any power gain I just want to hear that stutututu lol

there's literally no harm in just removing the vacuum source for the BOV and plugging it with a screw & hose-clamp and it stays "closed" forever. :) you can also remove the BOV completely and just block the two ~25mm ports left on the crossover, if you'd like to do it that way.

the BTR starts struggling big time around the 300rwkw mark.

+1 on Keith's suggestion for dose

tbh don't wanna sound negative (I only say it bcoz I want to be honest)

a 250thousand kilometre old btr isn't gonna like any more power over what you have now and will likely sh*t it self at 300rwkw very quickly
