Transmission fault code

Well I'll take all this into consideration. I just thought the code I had may of been a common problem or seen regularly. I'll try filling on the coldish side with a new filter and another dose of clean fluid and see how she goes. Like I said the box is operating normally but once in a blue moon this code pops up when I gun it. Could be tuner related.

Not for me, it needs doing anyway. If everything possible has been done it leaves no other option.

On another note, when checking trans oil level do you guys select each gear from 1 to 6 in sequential auto mode?

The proper ZF procedure is to do it at the right temp. They would do it cold at the factory, but that would be based on an exact calculation on how much fluid is required for a completely dry transmission.

They didn't have an exact calculation because they were sealed for life units. They came up with the 'calculation' on re-fill temp years after they had been built, after it became obvious they needed servicing. Most of the time it is fine but if you give them a hard time it will show up and go into limp mode using the re fill temp they they came up with. Some transmission shops require the car stays overnight for that exact reason because they cant give a warranty unless they know it is full when cold.

What I meant was that when giving them their initial fill before sealing them for life, they knew how much fluid they needed from their development - they didn't need to warm every transmission for the initial fill.

Yeah nah that's too hot. Start the car from cold, put it in drive and fill the bastard asap.

Ok so 35C is on the high side - BUT - it does need to be hotter than 'cold'. 30-35C is the recommendation from ZF.....

"It must be between 30°C and 35°C max. (6HP) or 40°C max. (8HP). Allow the engine to warm up or cool down to regulate the oil temperature."

Yea that's what I said to begin with. Does 4.5 L of cold fluid = 4.5 L of warm fluid or is there a mysterious difference? It only matters what amount of fluid is in there. Cold filling in Australia is between 25-30C anyway which is close to the ZF temp 'guide'. Do you think an extra 50-150ml is going to matter. They need to be full that's the most important thing otherwise with 500whp + they play up and go into limp mode if you push them. If you don't want to fill them cold while running get a full transmission flush done with the proper equipment.
