Progress is (very) slowly being made on the car, old mate @SACKED FG got the wg flange and elbow off the old housing and welded on the new one!

Currently sorting out my financials in the form of paying off my Zip Pay loan lol. Once that is done I can focus on buying the turbo 👌

I was originally going to buy the head studs myself, but after more thought I might just hand that job over to Rob. I was always going to get him to do the valve springs so it kinda makes sense that he does the head studs too rather than me.

Not many things left to do! Mainly just a time and money game now :)

Next order will be a goleby's one I reckon, belt and pulleys and possibly a water pump, figure I may as well do it now seeing as the coolant is pretty much all gone 😋

Removed the LEDs I plan on changing out this morning.

Hot air rework station makes easy work of this job. The board also appears to not use  ROHS approved solder, aka lead free solder.

This is actually a huuuuge bonus when it comes to stuff like this because the melting point of leaded solder is so much lower than lead free solder.

Set the rework station to 350c and 50% air flow, had all the LEDs off in less than 5min.

The new LEDs should be here by the end of next week. Really hoping they arrive sooner so I can get this back in the car by next Friday ideally.

LEDs arrived yesterday and I've started fitting them to the PCB.

Done the red and green ones so far, will hopefully complete it by the end of the day today.

The LEDs are a hell of a lot brighter than the original ones.... Hoping the diffuser will quieten them down a bit lol

Here is a comparison of the blue LED for reference.

The original LEDs have a lower power consumption (current draw) compared to the cree variants at the same forward voltage (voltage it takes to turn on the LED).

For comparison both LEDs have a similar forward voltage of around 3V, but the original LED draws 4mA compared to the crees 30mA!!

Also update on the other stuff, someone in my brothers (@SACKED FG) house got the covid and he now has to isolate for a week because close contact and sh*t.

WG welding gonna be a wee bit delayed 😋

Dash went back in over the weekend. The LED replacement was overall a success, but I'm going to hold off explaining how to do it. You have to remove the gauge needles to do this, which means the needles will never be aligned the same as they once were. If I can find out how to recalibrate the gauges then I'll do a full run down. Till then, I do not recommend.

Hopefully I didn't break anything in the process lol.

Overall though, a MASSIVE difference!!!!! I was worried it may be too bright but it definitely isn't. Forgot about the fact that you can dim the cluster lights anyway lol.

This photo was taken during the day at 75% brightness from memory.

If anyone knows where I can go to find info on cluster recalibration tools let me know! Keen to learn :)

I've looked at the possibility of using something called Ford IDS? Apparently that software can be used to adjust and calibrate clusters? Might need to ask this question on a different part of the forum though

nice work, bro! looks the goods.

I don't think IDS is going to accessible to you as it's the internal company diagnostic software haha

Some more fancy photos of the dash at 35% brightness :)

I can see why there is a bloke charging a lotta money to do this mod on ba/bf clusters lol

I'm also guessing its way easier to recalibrate those clusters too because he has a yt video of the cluster doing a calibration

I'd imagine it would be similar, yea. It is slightly concerning that the bloke only does ba/bf and not FGs though. There must be a reason why.

I'll ask him how he did it, but I really doubt he'll tell me. He created his own PC software to calibrate it.

Yeah, I doubt he'll tell you, but he might help you to get it done, e.g. suggest somebody local or help you remotely or whatever might be required to send it to him and get it done :idunno:
