Where is the cat located on a 2014 FG MkII turbo?

Exhaust shop tells me that swapping out the cat is either a $300 or a $1000 job depending on where the cat is. 'If the cat is up the top they have to replace the dump and cat'. Any one have some info on this?

either way, it should never be a $1k job, as at worst you cut the pipe, unbolt the ends, weld a flange on each end and bolt a cat in, which is the cost of the cat plus some flanges and a bit of labour which would never get anywhere close to $1k.

Yeah, I don't know where everyone finds these reasonably priced labour shops 😞

just ask any exhaust shop to cut+shut it... won't be more than 2 hours of their labour even if things go horribly haha... plus you can ask what the labour rate is before committing to the work.

The fg has a bolt in section that you can buy for $500.

That's clearly not bolt-in, since in the pic it has a v-band flange on it haha... those venom kits aren't realistically very cheap, but are "easy" for an exhaust place to fit up for you, in comparison to buying a ~$200-$300 100cpi catalytic converter and then paying them to weld it into place instead of your stock one. I did it in my BA (which has to be cut and welded since the cat doesn't come out easily, for $340 in Ballarat in 2017 (and that wasn't even a good price, I just rocked up and got it done, no shopping around)

well it definitely won't bolt up if it includes a flange-curved end of a pipe (without an actual flange)... you're saying that part of the piping is superfluous and you only get the hardware from the two actual flanges? if so, it's definitely not worth the money they're asking, since on the same website there's a cat for $180 from the same manufacturer.

The flange bit you're talking about has slid down the pipe in the picture. Look again broski

 

The title literally says "Venom Exhaust Stainless Ford FG XR6T Turbo F6 High Flow Bolt On Cat Pipe". The description says "It can be bolted up to a completely stock exhaust or with a cat-back system."

 

Anywho if we're debating whats worth the money then we should all sell our turbo taxis and all buy hondas

haha photography if they're trying to sell a product with a picture that depicts it in a "failed" position like the flange not being welded into place so it can be "bolted-on".
