Are you doing any of this testing while the pumps are pumping fuel ?
Load dramatically changes everything if you’re looking for any reason something might change

Yeah mate I tested the wiring first then I just jumped the trigger relay to run the pumps with the car off for 5 minutes. Then I started it and ran it for another 5 minutes. As above, everything seemed fine and nothing got warm except the relays.

I also swapped the stock slightly blocked fuel filter for the stainless mesh stock replacement.

After all that bollocks I put it back together and had 7 bar base pressure. Long story short I had forgotten to remove the check valve at the end of the return. Tank out etc...

Here's a bit of interesting info; with sub par wiring, slightly blocked fuel filter and the check valve still in there it ran a minimum of 5 bar rail pressure. Now that the wiring is good, the filter isn't blocked and the check valve had been given the snip, the minimum rail pressure is 5.5 bar!

Looks like I should have ordered the rail and reg instead of the injectors but fortunately I can afford to get them now so I'll get onto it... again lol.

Things I learnt today; always have good quality wiring for your pumps, make sure your reg and return are up to the task and don't touch the end of the heat gun after using it for heat shrink.

So yerp all done, I'll clean up, have a beer and head home.

Can you see why certain workshops struggle to maximise a good fuel system and why some of us can push hardware further than others .... The age old debate of why some argue a set of 1000’s and Plazmaman Pierberg and 460 top out at 470rwkw while others can crack 500rwkw with still fuel in the return ;)

Loving that you’re finding this out first hand... Rail and reg and return play a bit part. Cable size, relay capacity just as important. :)

Yeah there's more to it than picking parts and expecting it to just work.

I am seeing the different results for all the little things I do, and can see why they turn out the way they do. It's giving me solid info so I can make more informed choices in the future.

I have 2 40A relays atm but they are still heating up a bit. I wonder if swapping them to 200A or something will sort that out? Haha I guess I'll find out one day!

Big relays are fine as long as the fuse covers the wiring capacity on the circuit... you probably know that already ;)

So just looking at fuel rail options etc... I'm thinking that I'll desolder a stock fuel rail and modify it. There are plenty of holes to be opened up and it's easy to solder new fitting on etc. Should cost 2/3s of fark all and if it sucks I can just buy a name brand. Looks like I found myself something to do next weekend lol.

I'll sneak up on it a bit at a time to find the restriction. The return hole in the end of the rail is tiny so I'll start with that. It looks like 8mm and I reckon I can open it up to 14mm or so.

The old twin-in both ends out the middle trick?

That’s how I set up my twin feed rails ;)

Interesting stuff if you can make it work Nathan

I've got a couple of spare rails here so I can work on it during the week, rather than have to pull the car apart and try and rush it on the weekend. Ya reckon it's worth frigging around with the single feed by opening it right up in various areas, or should I just send it straight to twinfeedsville?
