Yerp I'm gonna coat every freaking piston I ever use in the future. I've seen what happens to pistons after a year or two of proper abuse and it can be avoided completely by coating them. When rebuild time comes around just blast the coating off and give it a fresh one. Should get years of perfect piston action for a high hp road car.

Have seen instances where the coating comes off, ends up in the sump and chews up crank bearings, or worse, blocks the oil pickup.

Probably incorrect clearances, but goes to show that expertise is needed when dealing with coatings.

There's an oil filter between the oil pump and the main oil gallery. Nothing can get into the bearings from the pump.

 

I have seen the most retarded level of engine building ignorance from industry professionals, so I would not be surprised if a piston was hammered into a bore with zero clearance.

Got a whole lot of assembly done and it's ready to take off the stand. I'll chuck in a few pics of parts I won't be seeing for a while

Cheers man, hopefully it adds a bit of reliability. The new bits under the timing cover are the crank sprocket, timing chain and posi-stop tensioner. I reused the guides, although I did swap the plastic bit on the moving guide.

 

Haha the valve springs are so hectic I couldn't turn it by hand using the balancer, even with the plugs out. I have my old ross balancer to go on, the one in the pic is just to keep sh*t out of the engine until tomorrow.
