Keeping the balance is difficult when moving upwards and I strongly believe a ZF vehicle just doesn’t require the lift/cam the way a 3 or 2 speed vehicle would but at least you can wind 3rd gear out vs going for the old 3-4 change @ WOT

There’s a chance to tweak those sprockets a touch too maybe and close the gap

You'd think a zf vehicle would benefit more as it has closer ratios to stay where the power is. In saying that, the zf might not be very good at much higher power levels...Maybe I just need more zf tuning skills to get it to work better?  Fwiw the dyno was ramped up flat out today and the car actually spools up about 1500rpm quicker on the street according to the data logs. It doesn't change the fact that the cams are too big for the turbo/power level but it's more info to fill in the gaps. I reckon with the cam timing I'll go halfway to where the cams are now, to where they were and it might look a bit better.

I think I’m going to put some smaller ones in but with th400 becomes totally different.

Yeah man definitely use the right cam for your power goals.

For the sake of conversation Adam, I'll waffle on about it. Also did you forget I ported the head? Nvm not a big deal.

The turbo is rated to 1120hp or 835kw. My car has made 711awkw previously and tomorrow will tell another tale.

If we assume a 20% drivetrain loss then we have 888kw or 1191hp at the crank. There is the loss from the zf then the losses through the transfer case, front and rear diff and all 4 wheels turning on the dyno. I strap the absolute fark it of it so there are no free power figures coming from this dyno.

Of course advertised turbo power figures are understated so there aren't issues with false advertising. 1191hp isn't a lot more than the advertised 1120hp so that seems reasonable.

IMHO it is fair to say that the turbo is very close, if not completely out of flow right now and that is the main limiting factor to producing more power. Perhaps the cat is having some effect too.

An easy way to find out is to chuck a g1450 on it and farken send it. We'll soon see if the turbo was out or another piece of the puzzle is holding it back.

Anyhow there is that so yerp there it is. :declare:

Oh sorry I didn't even realise the turbo was only good for 1000Hp, I didn't even have a look at it when you got it I just thought it was 1500hp + capable with the cam choice but all good you are making the same HP that other significantly more expensive cars are with the same turbo. I have been going over cams recently for an alloy headed real holdon efi 383 with single turbo. Turbo cams don't need heaps of duration like NA so old school 230/230 at 50thoa with some decent lift on 112 LSA is a big cam for a turbo car but not for a NA V8 you be looking at 252/258 at 50thoa with more lift on 109 LSA for very serious NA. I don't know how to do the conversion for DOHC at 1.0mm or something so I'm always lost on duration specs with barra cams.

I know first hand of a recent 1500rwhp build that had to go back to a smaller cam to make the power, from what I know it basically had the biggest barra cam in there to begin with (stage 4 etc). Just like a NA cam you have to think about port velocity, is the head ported etc can it actually use the extra flow and not hurt velocity. Turbo's engines don't need really big big cams to make the power as we know. Bigger the cam the more boost and more rpm you will need just to get it off its arse.

I said this :bum:
