Need help diagnosing a bad ticking noise from the ps pump area.

It almost sounds like valves ticking it is a repetitive metallic sound . I am sure that it’s coming from the ps pump. That’s what I’m hoping, if not if it is there is something seriously wrong with the motor.

That asside, This noise is some times not noticeable on start up when cold though once warm it starts. The noise will disappear or at least quieten down while the steering is being turned depending on the force applied to the wheel. Everything works perfectly fine, power steering fluid is full and no excessive noise from engine when driving. Has anyone else had this issue.?

the bearing is connected to the pump shaft as the non-turning portion... the pulley is a mostly solid item though and the bearing itself in the pulley allows for a little bit of slop/slip... but they wear out and tick when they wear out... could also be a different pulley other than the power steering but the symptom as you described it sounds like a likely scenario for the power steering pulley to be at fault.

stock lasts a long time and is cheaper... but you're welcome to spend the extra on the metal ones and upgrade.
