So far I've got an elite gasket kit, dominator head gasket, Hastings rings and acl bearings, genuine rod studs. This is being done late at night a few days a week because that's the only time I have available. It looked like the gassy had run on petrol and didn't present clean like they normally do. All good, more cleaning.

Rings top and middle gapped at 23 thou and main clearance came in well past the service limit. After watching the average garage video he mentioned he spoke to atomic who said its ok, we will find out.At this point I'm doing everything as best as I can but don't really give a sh*t about what happens when it goes in the car and fires up.The acl bearings look trash, is this normal? If your not machining anything go a single layer. Bearings as in puffs thread can be fairly loose without issue. I believe what ford calls worn out is close to atomic new spec. You can buy thou under size Bearings as well. Plastigauge has its place. Measuring the journal is better. Are them Bearings new?

I am running an inconel spring and adjustable relief in my oil pump that will bump pressure up to 110 - 160psi, which is why I decided to go with hx bearings. I ran my last build with 2 thou on the mains, which is where yours is now, and the bearings were fine with the power level I was running. To measure the crank properly you should measure it in 6 places per journal to see the size of it, how much taper it has and how round or oval it is. You need an outside micrometer to do this and they are surprisingly cheap. I paid $169 for my set, although they have jacked the price up a bit now. https://www.totaltools.com.au/46265-tti-4-piece-micrometer-set-l501102 I know cranks look worse in photos but it looks like yours could do with a polish. You want that mofo shining!

That kits looks nice I was looking for something like that. Hard pressed for time is the issue and this really is turning out to be a half slap job.Any tips on diy polishing the crank? I've got half a tube of autosol haha

You can get a crank polished for about $100 at an engine shop and they can measure it for you too. They remove any scratches and roughness from it so the bearings live a long and happy life. A side effect of it being smooth is being shiny, no point just shining it up lol. Now is the time to ensure the crank is perfect, or at least good enough to run, and it doesn't take much time or money to do it. Drop it off today and you might have it back tomorrow. violetpop Silver Donating Members 436 Member For: 4y 11m 9d Posted 01/10/22 08:50 PM Author Share Posted 01/10/22 08:50 PM Engine has been back in the car for a few weeks now, transmission arrived and quickly fitted into the car. Few things to tidy up and first start should be a few days away. Fingers crossed for good oil pressure and no knocks bangs or rattles haha I've had to resort to riding my mt09 to get my thrills. Major first world problems.
