I purchased a blue car many years ago from NSW that makes a lot of power but couldn't register it here in Vic (long story), so it's in storage wasting away :) no need to ask any more questions as that's an accurate short version.

Haha Keith's blue car is a taboo subject.

No more questions please, lets move on.

Although keith should post up some recent photos of said rusting dust covered storaged blue car.

BA F6 if my memory serves me right

It was along time ago so we all can't remember what it looked like, just a distant memory.

Such a tragedy 😭

It does.. I'm about to go through it now and don't know how I'm going to come out the other end.

I saw somewhere on here you have yourself another one for driving, that's a bonus. My daily is a old KIA Rio so you can see why I want to skip the sanding in get into a turbo falcon..

At the end of the day you can always come back to sanding and clearing a bit later.

Turn your focus to mods and tuning.

Might give ya a break from the paint work.

Just a thought.

I agree. Been going over it in my head during the week and that the direction I'm going to take.

I plan to take it another step further and go full out 'ex taxi replica'. No one will expect to get chopped by a beat up old taxi. I can also get it on the road sooner plus jot sorry about where I park the thing.

Some progress from today e6175aa569610636ed40555d5a114758.jpg

Looking at possible options for a turbo atm.. I have been reading about the faster response of the fg 3576 turbo. I like the idea of this and given that im not looking at huge power at this stage, this looks like a good option. Guy near me is selling one for under $500 which he says is good condition, I will confirm that when I inspect it.

Any down sides to fitting the smaller turbo?

I will obviously be keeping the 3582 which can be built back up at some point if I am looking for more down the track.

only downside is you're limited to ~320kW haha basically everything else about the smaller turbo is better.

Going from a BA to an FG I was amazed at the response of the smaller turbo. I had been planning on swapping the bigger turbo in, but decided not too.

Depends what you use the car for, but if it is a daily driver it's hard to argue with the response of the smaller guy.

At this stage, that's plenty for my current goal.

El Andrew good to hear a direct comparison like that.

Guys, I understand the rear housing is the same but is the actuator and bracket the same? I might need to investigate further about this...

If I line everything up I can do a straight swap and have minimal downtime. This turbo near me for sale doesn't have a rear housing so I will use mine and possibly get it ported while its off. Then put it all back together with the correct actuator and bracket.

Yep the actuator, bracket and rear housing from your 82 will fit on the 76.

I think the spring pressure in the FG 76 Is higher than the B series 82, so if you want to run 15psi or so on the little turbo you will need to change the actuator. (I just bought a new genuine actuator for my FG and MTQ said the spring pressure was 7.8psi.) If you are tuning it anyway, might make sense to out the right actuator in now so you don't have to pull the turbo again.

Edit: someone else might be able to confirm what I've said about gate pressure

More done today.. Minus the Tyres, the car is ready for rego. All clips and screws for the bumper bars are all in, wipers remounted, mud flaps and final once over.

New Tyres will be going on the steel wheels next few days as its the cheapest option.

Office works for the win with some vinyl numbers to go with the taxi theme. Will scuff them up and make them look 'old' and tired.

Ended up looking at the turbo for sale. All checked out, guy said it came off his car at 50,000 and is in very good condition.

The smallest amount of shaft play and I mean small you can't see it but just feel it, blades mint, spins mint and no sign of any issues. I though $450 was a good price for this item so no time like the present hey...
