It might be a very dumb question but here it goes In a manual car, you dont down shift into 1st gear unless you just came to a full stop or rolling very slightly. In an auto car, you can floor it when you are doing like 40-50km/h and it will kickdown into 1st gear. is this bad for the gearbox? Thanks guys

There is also no reason you can't do it with a manual. Shift back to first at 40kph that is. The only difference is the gear ratios. With a manual you will run out of revs at about 55-60kph whereas the auto will run to over 75kph.

I dont like to do things to it that I think will cause me headaches in the future. Thanks for the quick response Turbo6man

Usually the rev limiter will not let you go over 5750rpm in first gear which is about 65kph.The turbo is actually quite highly geared in first (for a heavy car) which is why the guys with mods to the engine are quickly finding the limitations of the clutch. If your going to fast and you try to shift manually it won't let you until you get below a certain speed.
