Yes I have heard of just sleeving a broken cylinder before. While this rubs my need for symmetry and uniformity the wrong way, in reality it is a valid repair. Make damn sure the machine shop knows what they're doing, not all machine shops are equal and there is a lot that goes into sleeve selection etc.

My block isn't being repaired, it will be replaced. But apparently it's becoming more popular to prep blocks with only cyl 1&6 sleeved. Presumably those two fail most commonly, or maybe it has to do with water jackets on just those two?

I hadn't heard of just 1 and 6  being done but maybe a high profile workshop has seen a trend in their machining?

I just gave a couple of blocks some measuring and inspecting and 1 and 6 don't look or measure any different, as far as potential bore thickness goes. The bores themselves aren't much chop.

None of the bores are siamese so they are all equally weak in that regard.

I would just do the lot if I was already there getting it done.

Engine out. It will now get some interior stuff done while a new block is sourced and prepped. Bit of trimming, nothing crazy, but will go somewhere else in Melb for that, then back to IMS.
