it'll most likely be the tailshaft centre bearing.

 

if you have a whining noise at reasonably low speeds that matches road speed with rising/falling, then it might be the diff.

Thanks. It does sound like it's  coming from the rear. Are you experienced in replacing this part?

I've read that it's a expensive job on the fg xr6s.

I'm not wearing any diff related issues.

it's not overly difficult to do if you have the right equipment or have somebody with the right equipment to help you.
