I don't think the power delivery is weird at all. Guessing you have an auto. If you try flog it in drive then of the course the car is going to get confused as to which gear etc you want, but if you drive in perf mode I found the throttle response amazing and the power is delivered quite linear considering its turboed.

Also the traction control is upgraded big time from B series. Have a drive of a B series if you can, my traction control was rubbish but in the fg it just cuts the power down a bit rather than altogether so your still accelerating but hooking up the tyres

And the idle issue could be because something needs replacing; plugs, coils etc. Depends on how many kms you got, again mine idles pretty good although is getting new plugs etc when it goes in for a tune

Not to try completely discredit everything you said but these cars are amazing value for money and I don't think these things are 'bad' especially when you drive other cars to compare it too

Well Surprise Surprise about my power delivery complaints.

Noticed one day car puffed a bit of black smoke on startup, I was thinking "OK Sticky Injector", lets take it to warranty.

I call up Ford Dealer I got the car from and the girl is very kind and books me in, very happy with service so far.....

next day I Get a call back from guy at Service Desk at Ford --- "Hi, We've found the car you brought from us has non standard injector

me --- "Ok Which injectors are in there"

Service - "We don't know, you cannot see the injectors on these cars, they are hidden behind a cover"

me --- "Are you serious? You can literally touch Cylinder 1's Injector"

me -- "So what are you going to do about it"

him - "Ok I'll put you through to the salesman"

salesman forwards my Email to him BACK to the Service dept, now to the Service "Adviser"

Service Adviser - "Hi we found your car has non standard injectors, we need to get a ford guy out to see if it has a tune on it"

So the ford guy comes out from Ford to the dealership with his Scanner, it's running the stock Tune on larger injectors.

Me - "Ok So are you going to fix it"

Adviser - "Yes we want to make you happy"

Me - "Ok can I have my old injectors back"

Him - "No, I'm losing too much money fixing the car, so I'm going to flog your old injectors off to some performance shop"

Me - "So none of your Mechanics noticed non standard injectors when they serviced the car before it went to the used car showroom"

Him - "Look We just see if the car looks OK, we don't delve in and look at stuff like oh is it running non standard injectors or any of that stuff"

Me - "You should, this problem could have been avoided if you checked the car before selling it to me"

Him - "I understand but I will tell you with these cars, people mod them, Idiots put them on Dynos and stuff like that"

Me - "I'm aware of that"

hey guys I'm new to xr6t falcons.

I have my eye on a 06 BF with just under 130k on the clock. how many k's is to many on the turbos?

its stock with a good service history.

I'm going to look at it again 2morow, what should I be looking for?

I have no major plan for huge performance mods, maybe just a safe tune

Is it a BFII or BF? BFII had stronger motor so if you do want to mod its a better platform but if you only want a tune then a BF will be fine.

As for kms, its a piece of string scenario. Some people have gone 200,000kms on same turbo, some have gone 20,000kms. All depends on how its been looked after and a bit of luck lol.

I guess manual or auto will make a difference what to look for slightly. But basically I'd say if it hasn't been the diff bushes would be shagged. If the gearbox has never been serviced it would be due for one and just general things. Stuff you can argue to reduce the price but doesn't necessarily decrease the value of the car that much

hey just to the kilometer thing ,,as long as the car has been serviced on time when its suppose to and by a good mechanic ,good oils used then the car shou;ld be a good one , mine has 65000k on it serviced when it should be and had mods its never flogged but driven ,,and if I was to sell it would go for at least 30k so hope the cars that u all buy are as good as mine thanks to spiro and the boys from auto tech

If the car has been Boosted for more power, Ran with no Blow off valve or disconnected it would have had more wear on the turbo then one that hasn't. And then again it all depends what sort of KM's they were and how it was driven.

So it's all relative, You can have a car that has 200,000km of normal KM's, or 200,000 of Sideways Action, Rev Limiter Hitting, Burnouts and Highway Pulls KM's.

That's why the type of KM's is more important than the amount of KM's with Performance cars most of the time.

So really worry what you'll be in if you buy a higher KM Car, e.g more wear on bushes, suspension, Power Windows, Electronics, Things like that

ofcourse a lower KM car will be better in those aspects perhaps.

But It all depends on the Entire package and particular car your looking at, instead of how many KM the car has done and most people get put off when they see a higher KM Car.

Remember your buying a car, not a piece of paper that says how many KM.

Pretty sure there's no hard evidence to support your bov theory. Yes it makes sense logically that the air being pushed back onto the turbo will create premature wear but no one has proved this yet (from what iv read)

Hey. This is my first post on here :)

I am selling my BMW to get back into the turbos. I'm 23 and live in brissy.

I've found this xr6 turbo ute I like. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on it. If I should get it or try and pick one up for cheap from dealer auctions or something and then do the work myself. If so where should I do the work and what sort of money am I looking at. This ute that is already had the work done has 750hp on an e85 tune and 600hp on a 98 tune. I'm not sure I need all that power. Lol. Would It even get traction?

If I were to buy one stock and get the work done I would like to get about 450-500hp atw. Just so I can brag to my mate who has 430hp in his r33. Lol

So yeh let me know what you guys think. My budget is about 20-22. Note I also want to get some really nice super wide wheels with some good offset and some tunes eventually.

Here is a link to the ad: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/ford-falcon-ute-2004-13746346

Cheers
