Sikahalv, As mentioned above by KerbWarrior, don't go on the cheap or get an email tune. It is not recommended to try and buy the parts on your own at a cheaper price.

I did that and it worked out more expensive. What most people don't factor in, when getting quotes from the tuner(seems more expensive) is that the parts that they supply, they also fit.

So the quote for a specific item is supplied and fitted!!!!!!

They also seem to through in some freebeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees to. The other thing is that if you build up a good reputation with the tuner of choice, then you will also get excellent after sales support and servicing if need be. I have been burnt by the guys at MT, but they have since made it up to me in free servicing for certain issues I have had afterwards.

There are people out that get the 57lb injectors and they do the job, but it is recommended to get the job done right the first time. Get Id1000 instead.

This means that if further on down the track, when you want more power, you already have the supporting mods to go with a bigger turbo if need be. ;)

I didn't see an inter cooler in the list. I highly recommend getting an inter cooler as well. something like the PW stage 1 interccooler, will not require cutting of the car.

I opted for a stage 2 because later on when I get my next stage of mods, I don't have to upgrade the IC.

Yes it does work out to be more expensive to get the upgrades done in stages(a tune is required for each set of mods), but I could not afford to do it all at one go.

Next on the list is a new turbo, clutch, drive shaft, quad tip exhaust and maybe CAI. that alone is going to cost me close to 8k. :(

gotta win the lotto first.

Try and work out how much power you want first and set a goal. If need be go to a few cruises and ask the guys to take you for a spin, so you can feel what the power feels like.

I know Chris took me for a drive in his F6 and I crapped in my pants. that was scary stuff and was not what I wanted.

I decided to initially settle for 300+ rwkw but I want more now. :D

You the one that will be making the final decision and we can only make recommendations. Each person is different, so what ever choice you make, will be what you will have to live with.

Try and make it a happy experience and not a sad one, by getting an email tune. ;)

I spent a fair amount of time looking for cheaper parts and stuff and I did end up buying a venon 100c cat, which got my mods going, but I should have just gotten the exhaust upgraded.......

You live and learn.

Ohh and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for all the welcoming and supportive feedback from the multiple forum members who've posted today and yesterday and response to my original post :)

Definitely seems like a good group of people here, and better than other some car enthusiast forums I've been a member of in the past!

I honestly thought that sourcing the parts myself through research on 'best price' and 'bang for buck' value was the way to go... but this car (the FG XR6 Turbo) will be different to my previous cars... the SCT X4 Flasher Tuner is available and does wonders... that's the consensus that I've read and am clearly aware of now... but there's more to this... this is not a JDM import like what I've previously owned in the past... It's ADM which means there's plenty of local support (from workshops... and members) so you're right when you say - find a workshop you like and purchase the parts through them, and at the same time get a dyno run + tune done.

I will do this - I've got 4 workshops to choose from and I'm looking for the best... once I purchase the FG XR6 Turbo I'll call them all and find out who's going to work with me to achieve the results I'm looking for (and within my budget).

I'd love to come along on an XR6 Turbo cruise in the future and I may just take you up on that offer... definitely want to meet fellow enthusiasts and gain first hand knowledge :)

Thanks once again for all the positive / constructive feedback.

Props to you though for doing a bit of reading Sikahalv and then asking the questions. Good luck, and start a pics/progress thread if you buy one.

I will do - I've got one of the best import blogs on the net - so making a pics / progress thread shouldn't be an issue for me ;)

If you're interested have a read @ www.v35skyline.com it's a blog about my current V36 Skyline (and previous V35 Skyline) and the process of importing from Japan to Australia.

If you've never done it, or don't know about the process, I've posted a plethora of useful information - hopefully it can benefit some members here (regardless of the ADM based forum).

Pretty sure I've seen that Dato at one of the recent cruises :)

The ONLY downside to getting your chosen Tuna here in Radelaide to supply all parts and fit them is some of the tuners will most definately suggest something that either isn't (necessarily) required or try and convince you to go a certain way which may not be the best or even most economical way.

This is because -- unfortunately -- Radelaide (or the New Tasmania (as Ralph likes to call us)) doesn't have a 'specialist' Ford turbo tuner so if your going to mod an FG, read some more of the build threads and then when you think you have it all sussed, read some more and then ask more questions.

Don't be in a huge hurry to do anything without more research and questions being asked as you can bet your ass that if you rush into modding one of these, you may end up regretting something in the future or worse still, it could cost you more money coz you're doubling up on parst.

Have a look for my car (lots of pics in my build thread -- link in my sig below) so you recognise it when you see it at one of the cruises and feel free to stop for a chat :) I'm the old bloke with grey hair ;)

That burnout isn't impressive. Low standard in the US of A :)
