When I first went for an xr6t I bought a ba even though everyone said the bf's were better but I thought too much money for bf.

ended up costing me more in the long run after selling it after 12 months because it sucked the bag and bought the bf f6.

fg xr6 turbos are MUCH quicker and better in every other way.

Save a few more bucks and find a good BF. Budget ..... 4K for simple mods on top of that.

No sarcasm here, I do part time work to pay for my "habit" ......... a long standing addiction I am afraid to hi octane fuel and tyre smoke. Its a tragedy really...... (hahahahaha)!!!

Buying one of these things is one thing, maintaining one and modding is another. If you can only afford a BA then get a BA, mines still kicking along nicely at 190,000kms modded since 60,000kms... Do smart mods and dont push them too hard as they are old as sh*t lol... Of course a newer model would be better..

I got my XR6 turbo ute, BA at 119 000kms. The previous owner had brought it at 70 000kms in near new condition and her partner had done semi dodgy mods to it and basically flogged the sh*t out of it on her. Since I have had it, iv had a fair few problems with it such as a new computer, radiatior, ignition coils burned out while driving one day and general body wear and tear that should not be on a car with only 133000 kms. Also power wise now it is severely lacking power compared to most ba's, it wouldn't even keep up with a gen3 anymore.

My point is make sure when you buy one dont buy something flogged out and stupid because it wont have the power or reliability you are after.

It would take a great deal to make a BA quicker than an FG, especially off the line. If you want an idea of how simple mods would compare look at what times a BF F6 Typhoon runs down the quarter compared to an FG XR6T.

The FG is faster than the BA, it also has a smaller turbo so it can produce power much quicker, but $10,000 will probably get you a damaged FG. Try $15,000 and you can probably get more FG's for sale and you could find an OK one for that.

The BA has a larger turbo so can make more power once you begin tuning them, so the BA would be the better option if you intend to make more power with mods without having to change turbo.

The flash tune will probably make the BA Faster than the FG but the drivability of both cars will still be different, e.g FG will have better response as it has a smaller turbo.
