Its happened. After 15 months I have sold the BA XR6 and bought a Mazda 6 Luxury Sports Hatch. the XR6 was great but man-o-man it was heavy on fuel. Had done 30,000 km as well. Got $30k trade for it. Typical ford or holden, loosing heaps of money. Not to worry. the Mazda6 has leather, sunroof, 200w BOSE system with 6stack CD, 4 air bags and side curtain air bags. One day I probably will get back into a falcon. I suppose the good thing is FORD own most of MAZDA

congratulations on the new Mazda 6. I hope you have many safe and enjoyable trips in it.

How does the power of the 2.3 Mazda feel after the Xr6?

I heard they have a great induction noise :)

Good luck with the new car mate

But dont you think the extra fuel the XR would have eaten would more than outweigh the depreciation hit you took on it to buy the Mazda? You are probably going to have to do a million kms to make it worth it!

Someone help me with the math here:

My reckoning is the depreciation on TWO cars now far exceeds any extra fuel use costs or savings.

For example, if the BA was doing 2 litres per 100 kms worse , then over the 30,000 kms stated it used $600 more fuel than the precious but overpriced Mazda 6.

Now the fact has to be faced that the Mazda may depreciate faster than the BA.

:ta:

Even at 4 litres per 100 km EXTRA fuel use the numbers do not stack up.

Which car is safer , faster, more comfortable, and BIGGER?

My cynical nature gets me into trouble sometimes.

My Baby : XR6 T SS, Phase One unichip, 18's Prem brakes, blah blah...

Don't think you'll be going ZOOM ZOOM in a mazda6 mate

I think the zoom zoom will be the sound of all the XR's passing him!!

Sorry mate I can't congratulate you on your purchase especially when you Traded the Ford on something so uninspiering(spelling).

The money you lost on your ford will never be made up with the fuel you save on having the mazda six, pretty foolish decision if you ask me!!

Did you actually calculate how much fuel you would save!! another thing is they look kind of silly with those little wheels and big wheel arches well each to their own I suppose.

MAZDA 6 :ta:

While I don't condone the trading of a Ford for a Mazda, I was at the Melb Motor Show yesterday and there was a turbo AWD version of the Mazda 6 and it was VERY nice. I could possibly be swayed towards this over a Ford for the family car, but I'd have to keep the ute!

Obviously people by cars for different reasons. An Xr6 for the power, economy should be secondary. The xr6T will allow you to have four passengers in the car a lot more comfortable than the mazda 6, wont struggle going up hills and gee watch those front wheel drive cars doesnt take long for those cv joint to go click click click.

I had a mazda 626 nice car but never considerd it a family car. My advice is you should have thought of this before you bought the xr6 did you have a 4 cylinder before that.

I work on the principle yes you get better fuel economy but you end up paying more in repairs because it ha to work harder going up hills and carrying heavy loads.

where as a 6cylinder has the power to do these things without running it into the ground.

P.s would have been a good post should I sell my xr6 for a mazda 6.

Wish you all the best and hopes it gives you lots of pleasure but it would have been nive if they at least had the little v6 that they had in the 626`s. In the end your car your desicion. They do look nice.

:(
