FG XR6T cruise control problem

Recently the cruise control on my FG XR6T has decided to stop working. The system turns on using the main paddle but when pressing the set speed button it doesn't do anything. Has anyone else had this problem and what was needed to fix it? As an aside the car has so far run an almost trouble free 120,000 kms so far and has been simply brilliant to drive.

I've think I remember a similar issue with mine where the trailer loom was shorting or something - I "think" I gave it a good "jiggle" and it came good.

Have you got the tow pack?

Thanks for the reply, do have a tow pack. Gave the wiring a good jiggle and tried to follow it as far as I could but hasn't done anything so far. If there is an earth somewhere it could be related to the last service as they replaced the drivers side power window drive mechanism so it maybe that the problem is there, I don't think the cruise control has worked since the last service in early November.

Maybe try the battery disconnect again.

Another thing maybe brakes or brake lights - if the car thinks either of those are being used it'll cancel cruise control.

You haven't put odd size tyres/wheels on the car have you?

No other warning lights coming up on the dash at all?

Maybe bring it up with the ones who serviced the car - they may know of anything they did that could have caused the issue

from what I recall from another thread, sometimes it is the switch on the brake pedal that causes this.

The other thing, is that you need to brake at least once after starting the car, to be able to activate cruise control.

When trying to set the cruise control, does the Cruise control info blink/flash at you?

Thanks for all the replies definitely helped track down the issue. Because there were no system warnings showing it meant that there was nothing wrong with the system itself so had to be something to do with sensors being activated. Brake fine but turns out the clutch pedal not coming out far enough to activate the sensor there. By pulling the pedal out further the cruise activates. Likely the car needs a new master cylinder.

ohh before you do anything else. I am assuming you have a manual, now that you mention the clutch pedal. Mine had the same problem.

the spring for the pedal actually cracked and snapped on mine.

the spring was replaced with a stock valve spring!!!! they had to use a die grinder to grind a tad on the inside, but it actually fit in and did the job.

The whole pedal assembly was going to cost me $280 just because of a spring.

lol @ using a valve spring for that purpose. That's some serious ingenuity...

Took it into the place usually serviced and they diagnosed the Master Cylinder failing but ok to drive up to Port Stephen's over Christmas and they would replace early in new year. Got up here and the master cylinder has almost totally failed and won't be able to get back to Sydney without it being replaced. Problem is nobody is open up here, they are all on holiday too.
