Not ALL cd players that read cdr's will read cdrw's. Cdr's are not as reflective as normal pressed cd's, and cdrw's are even LESS reflective. Most older normal cd players can read most cdr's but won't do cdrw's.

That being said, most new devices these days can do both as cdr and cdrw awreness has grown since the mid 90's. I haven't tried a cdrw in the XR but if it can't be read you will need a new laser and there's not much point. A cheap cdr is a much better solution.

Now to throw a spanner in the works. What would be required to make the CD player able to read rewritable CD's?

Although no answer to your question - why would you bother using a rewritable CD with the cost of recordable CD's being so low? I can't say that I have ever bought one myself.

Trent.

I've answered this question before, but that was ages ago.

The reason I would want to use rewritable CD's is that in the past (when I had a car CD player that would play rewritable CD's) whenever I got a new song, I would add it to a CD of my favourite songs. Using a CD-RW, I could just use the 1 CD again and again. If I used CD-R's to do this, I would end up using maybe 1 a week.

And that 50c seriously cuts into the drinking money right....

To me it's more about the convenience of CD-RW's. And it also seems very wasteful to me to use CD-R's for this purpose.

At the end of the day, it's not a big issue to me because I usually turn down the music to listen to the car! :ermm: I just think it's a bit disappointing that CD-RW compatibility is missing on what is otherwise a great system. :(

I spent days making wavs of my cd collection and then burning them onto many, many comiplation discs for the car. Just put all the songs you like on a bunch of cdr's and drive. :ermm:

Happy to answer any questions

What happened to following up on how the MP3 player came from the factory? :crybaby:

Thread miner alert!!! :spoton:

It would be better to somehow convert it to full DVD capability, that way it can play MP3s, CD-R and CD-RW (have I missed any formats? ) as well. Every time I see Aaron I ask him about this, he reckons it can be done but takes time and money, neither of which he has an excess of.

The X-Box add-on that Aaron has recently done is probably the best compromise. You still need to have a seperate (X)"box" mounted say under the seat, rather than feed the CD/DVDs directly into the ICC.
