Sorry if this has been asked before,

but I have the following engine build in my car:

- Cosworth Forged Pistons

- Howard I-Beam Conrods

- ARP Main Studs

- ARP Head Studs

- Cradle Gurdle

- Billet Oil Pump Gears

- Steel Head Gasket

- Crow valve springs.

Is there a recommended oil for this combination?  I cant ring the engine builder as they dont exist anymore..

I bought some Penrite racing 15w-50 - 100% pao ester synthetic...

Will this be OK?

Engine would have like 15,000kms on it maximum.

Cheers,

Yep.  That will be fine.  I have the same combo and run edge 5/40.  But 0/40 5/40 15/40 5/50.   All OK.  Just run FULL synthetic.  With 15/50.  Just make sure oil is up to temp before revving it up.

obviously the best would be to call the engine builder and get their recommendation on what oil to use, but you obviously can't... do you have the clearance specifications etc so we can get an idea on viscosity requirements?

most fully synthetic oils will be fine, as this chump said ^^ haha

If you don't know what the clearances are then you'd generally wanna check your oil pressure as a guide to what viscosity to choose.

Lol Keith, are you reading what I type as I add and subtract from this post?

For the most part pressure and oil temp are what to keep an eye on.

Thanks guys,

does anyone know what range the stock FPV oil pressure gauge shows?

with the oil that I just dropped it would sit at 1/3 when idling and when I revved it it went to 2/3 under load.

I will keep an eye on this new and see what it reads

The stock oil pressure gauge is basically useless... install a proper pressure/temperature gauge and go from there.

I try not to read minds... but sometimes it just happens :wtcslap:

Thanks mate

I have been told it was built by Duane Evans at hi torque performance when they were around.. no idea on the clearance specs or anything :(

surely hi torque are still around... :ermm:

anyway, if it was him, try and find out some of the previously employed people at that business (Duane himself or otherwise) to see if you can get some historical data on how they build such engines.

says they are permanently closed.. but there is a shop on the gold coast with the same name.

but yeh this one in doveton was the shop that built it I believe.
