Remove Ba manual gearbox

Hello fellow xr6 members

 

so recently my Ba Xr6 turbo gearbox decided to jump out of gear downshifting while being a little touch to change gears, 

Im in the stages of pulling the box out and was just wondering if anyone would be kind enough to run me through whats needed to remove the box, which id really appreciate.

 

I have jack stands/ hoist if needed.

 is it posible to remove it with jack stands?

 

I have most tools, extentions metric ect, I just need a basic rundown on how to remove the box, im very mechanically minded and have done numerous car repairs, the job looks fairly easy

undo gearstick,undo reverse switch, drain oil, remove tailshaft 4 bolts, remove transmission cross member, and or belhousing bolts.

 

if anyone could give me some extra advice id much appreciate it. cheers guys

Don't drop it on your head.

you've done most of it by what you've said there.

Remove the clutch lines from the master cylinder, remove the exhaust that's in the way, remove the tailshaft and that's about it on top of what you said.

Thankyou both for your feedback, dropping it on my head was a funny one. To get access to the clutch lines I’m guessing they will be on the outside of the behousing on drivers side of car?

Yeah, it unclips near the firewall.

 

Forgot about the starter motor, too.

 

You might have to tilt the motor at the front to get the bellhousing to clear the transmission tunnel.

 Thanks bud will keep that in mind 2 questions while I’ve got your attention  1. the slave cylinder on the ba’s are they just a pump pedal type system to bleed or a concentric setup? 

 2. I have a leaking power steering line it seems wondering if I purchase it is it fairly easy to setup or do I need to take it to a power steering specialist ect.

1. Yes, they are pump hydraulic which gravity bleeds over time, but can be bled with a remote bleed line installed when the gearbox is out.

2. It's not hard to do yourself, really... The turbo does get in the way a bit, but not overly difficult. Just buy the replacement line and clean up the mess on the alternator or it'll die from the contamination.

Cheers man will defiantly be buying a new line if I have to many dramas I’ll get a shop to fit it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info on the box done it in and out short shifter billet also was abit of a pain but got it in, new clutch went for a extreme heavy duty clutch replaced master cylinder also
