Recently purchased a manual 2012 FG MK II XR6T Ute and have a few queries... to me me it seems like first thing in the morning and on the way into work the car runs a little sluggish almost like there is little to no boost and yet when I start it up in the afternoon to come home for the first couple of minutes it seems to drive really nicely, boost builds quickly and comes on strong. But it only seems to drive like this for a few minutes before going back to feeling sluggish. I dont Int have a boost gauge fitted so I’m just going on feel but the difference is really noticeable. The car is stock as a rock as far as I know so just wondering if anyone knows what could be going on or where I could start to see what’s going on... thanks in advance. Most were fine anyway, only one a little loose. Turbo fasteners I didn’t touch though... which ones specifically? Do these cars go into limp mode I.e. if something is detected will the ecu limit the boost to low or none... Expand There are 4 that hold the turbo onto the manifold. Seems the fg turbo dont last long in many cases. Some have died at 60,000km What the idle like? As in does it sound like its missing? Ever? Also have u looked over all the piping from cooler to turbo/ plenum? Mite be a crack around the plastic 45 bend to the plenum, they seem to go often as well. joffa1 Member 162 Member For: 7y 9m 9d Posted 24/10/17 06:48 AM Author Share Posted 24/10/17 06:48 AM 85,000 kms on her. Idle seems ok, sometimes hunts a little when pull up at the lights - as in revs will drop quite low for a second or two and then go back to normal. I think the turbo is probably ok as when it’s boosting right it really hauls arse. Thanks Ill have ave a good look over the piping too. And also make sure I tightened the 4 bolts going from the turbo to the manifold... although I’m fairly certain I’ve done them already. joffa1 Member 162 Member For: 7y 9m 9d Posted 25/10/17 04:51 AM Author Share Posted 25/10/17 04:51 AM Ok yeah have been meaning to do fuel filter for a while. Easy job or an absolute pain in the ass that involves replacing fuel lines like in the old au? im in outer eastern suburbs Melbourne. Would love to hear some recommendations for a mechanic who knows their way around the FG turbos. Cheers.
