March '04 Wheels mag has a fantastic story about taking an XR6T to Europe and having motor writers there have a test run. I reckon I own the best performance car in the world and damn proud of it!

It would be interesting to see what they thought of the XR6T.

As far as performance cars go throughout the world, I don't think the the XR6T would rank very highly, sorry! Don't get me wrong I love mine, but there are some very quick and refined cars out there. :smilielol:

I know there's great performance cars out there which are better than the XR6T, but there's not many at $39k (that's what I paid for mine)

In addition to the Euro tests, there's also a one page report on the XR6T in Detroit. Hey, there's even a comparo between Futura and its competitors. Quite a good read for Ford fans this month.

I would say that the XR6T is a very nice car and for it's cost ranks high.

The US version would be half the HP/kW though due to Insurance.

The Ford Futura is supposedly debuting in 2006-2007 to replace out Taurus and will be based off the Mazda 6.

I don't mind them doing that, but I would love to have a Falcon.

Heck I'd rather come down and import it myself and be unique

REGARDLESS

You guys have a EXCELLENT performance car for a STOCK vehicle!

Most motoring journos over there would probably like it ,just as they did whenever Wheels took a Late model camira over - the novelty alone almost guarantees it- but I think the XR6T would be fighting outside its weight against any half decent Euros . It's pace would be up there but the quality , the build , fit/finish, features and technology it will suffer in comparison

;) :hiwelcome:

The photo of the full sideways drift at 130klm is absolutely excellent, and regardless of what else is out there, and/or what it costs, any standard road car capable of doing that with relative ease and perfect poise, IMHO that car should take a bow, proof that Ford Australia CAN build a damn good car. :o :o

They compared some aspect of the XR6T with a BMW (don't know what aspect or what BMW sorry :o ) and the XR6T came out on top.

I quickly read the article in the libr...oops I mean the newsagent this afternoon and it seemed to me to be mostly waffle, no real content to it.

A comment by one of the Euro journos said the suspension was a bit soft.

They did a bit of a comparo with a :o Mondeo V6, the Mondeo worked out about $10K dearer than XR6T and one Euro journo said if they were the same price he'd take the T, so it's definitely a no brainer when the T is cheaper.

Maybe now Geoff Polites is going to Europe he may look at importing XRs and FPV over there.

The BMW (585i) thing they compared the falcon to was the comfort/noise/poise etc testing they do over bumps and things like that.. The falcon got 64/100 and the bmw was 57/100 (think they were the numbers). So the falcon won this. I could check the stuff for sure, but the mags in an other room and I'm too lazy.

The "soft suspension" was by a pommie journo. Obviously has driven on some of the roads in Australia then.

Overall I liked the article. Pitty about the oil leak they got. Germans couldn't fix it (didn't really bother too), a french mechanic at one of the test places found that a wrong sized washer was used somewhere and found one that would work ;)

Oh and the colour of the car was phantom. most of the journo's didn't like it. It doesn't stand out. Blood orange woulda been so much better.
