As you know I have a reasonably hard worked phoon and have for the past 14 months put 50,000 k's on it of very enthusiastic driving.

Prior to that I had a T that I put 80,000 on in 2 years of hard modified driving.

I have for the first time used castrol edge 10-60 and absolutely recommend the stuff..

I have used every other type of synthetic oil and some semi - synth. and none feel or seem to preform as this one does.

Only been in for 2 days and feels and sounds great. I change every 5000km's so I will post again here on the oil at 5000.....

Just my 2c worth I thought I would share.....

have had it in my std T for a while.... no difference whatsoever from magnatec.

However a few T engines running this stuff have been in prime condition even after many km's.... good enough reason for me to use it.

I'm surprised it makes a difference that's all. Wogged or not. If you had a built bottom end with much tighter tolerances then I would expect a difference. Maybe the Phoon's are handbuilt?? dont know, but my experience is that on the 2 XR6T engines ive been through both magnatec and 10-60 fomular R/edge were exactly the same performance wise.

Sounds like your onto a good thing though and that's what counts.

Cheers,

Mate is your reccomendation for the Castrol edge in particular or the 10-60w grade?

Scotty

Ps I run Castrol edge 0-40w grade, and I rekon it is pretty good, want to try that Nulon stuff that was brought up about 3 months ago though and see how it is. Aussie if I can.

I think you will find that 'Built' bottom ends are not much different to stock, as Ford run pretty tight clearances.

The main difference is that everything is checked to make sure nothing is outside a very narrow specification.

I have used Castrol 10w60 almost exclusively in my old engine, and now again in my new 330+ rwkw (yet to be dynoed) engine, and it is great stuff.

The main difference between Magnatec and Edge 10w60, apart from the viscosity, is the oil's ability to sustain it's properties over long periods in difficult conditions, and as such it will provide better protection as the oil 'wears' over time, or if you should have an overheating incident, damaging the Magnatec.

On my old engine I changed every 10,000k's and it was virtually like new inside, and I think I will do the same with the new engine, as I do not believe the Edge 10w60 oil will have broken down in that time, nor will it have picked up sufficient contaminants to justify changing more often.

As far as tolerences go, I can tell you that my new engine with 10W60 runs nearly 60 psi oil pressure at 2000 rpm, and 68-70 psi at 3000 rpm, and this despite me drilling the 2 mm piston cooling/lubrication holes in the Atomic conrods that the stock rods have, causing deliberate oil leakage from the base of the conrod, so that's not bad from bearings which are essentially stock.
