I went out and bought 5 litres of Royal Purple 10W- 40.. I then googled around, and saw a few ads on youtube..

I was stunned to see virtually a Royal Purple version of those bogus Bi- Tron snake oil ads and it scared the bejesus outa me.

I then realised I needed near 7 litres for the change so I went back to Autobarn, they didn`t have any more 10W-40 Royal Purple...

I thought about it, and went with two 5 litre bottles of Penrite SIN 15, 15W -40 and returned the bottle Purple..

I wish all the power in the world to anyone who uses and likes Royal Purple, but I wasn`t going to be comfortable with it.

The Penrite forfills my criteria: 15W-40 like Ford recommends, and fully synthetic like I want..

It also says: kick ass on the bottle, I just noticed.. that's gotta be a winner..

I've done over 6000kms on it and a total of over 10000kms on the car.

Three oil samples later and all wear metals are trending down.

Good oil.

Easy. Look at the parts per million, or ppm for short, count on the sample report.

When you get an oil sample it will list all the metals and their ppm if applicable.

When you keep sampling the same compartment, eg. engine, you will see a trend with the ppm either going up or down.

Normally, depending on how frequently you sample, you will see a high ish reading of your wear metals for the first couple of samples if the compartment is new or rebuilt.

This is due to running in of components inside the compartment.

After a while the ppm count should drop.

If it rises there may be a problem that needs looking into.

When I get some time I'll post a copy of my oil sample report and that should explain it a bit clearer.

ive had a bit of a read and im a bit confused. I just noticed the light was on and the oil was almost off the stick. I just grabbed the most expensive sh*t at the servo that I could find. that was castrol edge 5w-30.

the engine was fully built by cv, atomic cams, internals etc, is this oil ok to leave in there or should I get it changed? I dont want to cause the engine any damage, and I usually give it a hard time.

I run a 10-40 Motul oil in my Atomic motor and that has been great so far. A good idea would be to contact CV and see what they recommend, considering they built it

Might be too late mate.

If the oil light came on that would mean that there was zero oil pressure. It's not a level light.

I'd be getting it checked out quick smart if I was you.

As a mechanic there is nothing that I fear more than hearing about an oil light or alarm coming on.

It can only mean one thing. Damage.

True, I didn't even pick up on that. The oil pressure light can come on when the level is low and the oil moves forward or rear, so hopefully the light only came on briefly.

d rangd, how long has it been since the oil was changed in your motor?
