I should have phrased that a little better. No ticking noise in mine. Was talking more about the fact I have notched up over 200,000kms.

Relevant to my interests.

Having said that XFT didn't mention anything when it was in for work recently.

So I have the 2 most extreme experiences when changing the oil in my car. First time around 6 months ago I was getting a low oil pressure warning light so I thought I would drop the oil and see how it was. Not a single drop came out, NOT ONE DROP! When I removed the oil filter I found a heap of jet black sludge. After replacing it everything was fine for quite a while. I will add though my car has steadily been using coolant for the last couple of years (around 1lt a week possibly more) and I assumed it would have been rather terminal so I hadn't paid a lot of attention to it hoping it would blow and I would have an excuse to build it.

A couple of months ago it once again was showing low oil pressure so I thought maybe the same thing happened and I topped it up. A few weeks ago now the car started running like a real pig and blowing a sh*t load of smoke. Im not exaggerating when I say I couldn't see an inch out of my rear window due to the thickness of the smoke. So I garaged it for the last month to decide what I was going to do and how far I was prepared to take the next build. Having the weekend off I thought I would have a play and see what I could find. I had the car sitting for almost 3 weeks straight and noticed a huge pool of oil underneath the left front corner so I suspected maybe my oil pump or a feed line of some sort. Feeling quite motivated I decided to change the oil and what I found shocked the living sh*t out of me...

That is a picture of the oil I dropped from the car and I filled that tub another 3 times. In all I filled 3 x 5lt bottles and 3 x 1lt bottles with the dirty, gritty sh*t I dropped from my engine. All up it would have been close to 19lts.... How the f*ck does that even happen and how the hell is my car still alive? After putting new 5-30w (bought some cheap Castrol assuming it would go to waste) it runs better than I would have hoped for and doesn't seem to have lost much power if any at all. Turns out the pool of oil I found was overflow from the intake that had run into the air box and flowed out the small hole in the bottom.

I know using coolant in the volume it has been is probably something terminal but the fact I have it back on the road a little longer make me very happy

:)

Did the 19L of oil look watery, or coolanty or transmissiony? Is it possible the Coolant or tranny fluid is leaking into the sump because that does not look like engine oil... I can't imagine a motor running well with anything but oil in the sump...

Wingnut - You gotta be kiddn me that you let these faults go as long as you did? Chr!st, if mine uses more than a 150ml of oil in between changes its a "please xplain" and water loss is a call to Sherlock Holmes.

The fact the car actually ran is an engineering triumph for Ford. Anyway - is it rebuild time ?????

That's exactly my point!! As soon as it started using coolant I knew it was going to cost a fortune so I didn't really consider fixing it until I had to haha

I'm not a silly and I have always been so precious with my cars but I don't sweat the small stuff these days and considering I don't need a car to get around where I live I have neglected it. Drove it a bit over the last few days and it hasn't skipped a beat.

I'm curious to know exactly what is wrong but that process alone is going to be expensive and time consuming so I'm not too troubled with it atm.
