Turbo lag with new turbo

I just replaced the turbo on my g6e with a brand new one, exact same turbo but now I'm experiencing major turbo lag.  Will I need to get it tuned or could something else be the issue?

It wasn't installed correctly if it is the exact same turbo.

 

Look for a gasket leaking, an intercooler fitting leaking or your wastegate being stuck open. Maybe the actuator hose isn't plumbed correctly or the boost solenoid isn't plugged in.

Could it be the new actuator causing the issue?  Would it be worth putting the old actuator back on?

If it isn't adjusted correctly it could be holding the wastegate open.

Ok will put the old actuator on and see if that sorts it.  Also what does the 6-1/1 number on the turbo mean?

Have a read up on how the actuator works and how you adjust it before you go swapping it over.

 

Here is the turbosmart iwg instructions. Here is a youtube clip showing how to adjust the preload.

 

You will see that if the actuator is not adjusted properly the wastegate will not be sealed shut.

Any info on what the numbers mean, the old one has 6-1/1 whereas the new one has 7-1/1

Lags with the old actuator on too.  I did a fault scan and got the fault P1228 FORD - Wastegate Failed Open Under Pressure
