The two XR6's I've driven both performed like this.

Cam Member 397 Member For: 21y 11m 25d Location: Brisbane Posted 14/02/03 09:07 AM Share Posted 14/02/03 09:07 AM The way the gearbox works is:In D (Adap) - fully automatic using an adaptive shift pattern - learns from your driving styleTo left of D (Perf) without any movement forward or backward - fully automatic with performance shifting patter - longer gear holding and no 4th gearTo left of D after moving the selector either forward or backward - the display changes to show the current gear number I.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 - fully manual (no clutch obviously) - with the exception that it wont left you down change a gear if woudl put you over the red line, and if you stop forward movement it returns to gear 1.(But I suspect CJF077 already knows this)Let me ask you this - when the gear fail to change automatically what is displayed in the instrument cluster LCD panel? If it shows a gear number then you have either moved the selector either forward or backward since selecting perf mode (either intentianally or accidentally) OR perhaps the shifter is loose and rattling about a bit causing the system to think you moved the selector OR faulty tranmission or controller! If it shows a number then move back to Adap (right) then back over to perf (left) - does it still show a number or not?? I think the "BA manual" said something weird like 157kmh??? I'm probably wrong but it was some speed that didn't sound exactly right. Was playing with it last night, tehehe. Naughty, I've only done 1700 K's...oops.
Mals BA XR6T Member 381 Member For: 22y 1m 21d Location: Sydney Posted 15/02/03 06:40 AM Share Posted 15/02/03 06:40 AM Ok this IS what happens...SSS - Full Manual, won't change for you...however... if you forget you are driving in Manual Mode, say coming to a corner (driving in 4th, and don't change back down), after you have been driving for quite some time, and then plant your foot once you exit the corner, it will revert back to Auto, a "D" symbol will flash in the LCD. This only happens after an extended time of driving (maybe 5 minutes), so if you say drive to the end of the street (in Manual Mode) , slow down without touching the gears (from 4th), then plant your foot it won't revert back to "Drive" you'll know if it does this as the "D" will flash straight away, and it only does this if the push your foot down hard and fast.Hope this clears it up.
